The Bear Farm zoo features tame wolves, reindeer, and raccoons. The animals are treated with priority and have their own large area with food and a lake to bathe in. The zoo is spectacularly decorated with many bears, many wolves, and many lions.

We really love bear farm, very good place for children, they have two good playground for all aged children.

Zsombor S — Google review

Loved bears and their space. Amazing views. However lions and some wolves (not all), lamas, other animals - very little of space. Not like safari park that I hoped for. Some wolves had their ears torn with flies flying around. Sad life for these animals :(I believe they should give other animals to other zoos and leave only bears who are loving here I believe.Five stars only because bears have a lot of space.

Mantas R — Google review

Great location with approximately 50 bears, some lions, goats and more bears. You can see the animals really close, half a meter distance of you. It has play groud for kids as well.

Claudia R — Google review

Was good to see that bears and wolves have such spacious territory, but it was very heartbreaking how tiny space they have for the lions and the lynxes. Hope they can improve on that. I liked that feeding the wild animals is now prohibited.

Viki A — Google review

The Bear Farm is a good program if you are staying close to the site. I reccomend coming here by car because the public transport is not a good option, but the parking lot is big enough. The bears have a big fanced area for themselves which you can walk around in about 20 minutes. You can also find lions, lynx and wolves at the park as well, but they aren't as active as the bears. The price is not that low, however if you want to encounter bears up close this is definitely your place to visit.

Martin H — Google review

It should probably be a 4 because it's quite run down and is in the middle of nowhere, but if you appreciate places that rescue animals and try to give them a better life then you'll appreciate this. The bears are now living a pretty good life, and it's great to see them in a more or less natural habitat. Some of the other animal exhibits are a bit small for my liking but for something a bit different to a traditional zoo, I recommend this place.

RBP — Google review

Spectacular displays of many bears, many wolves and many lions, and many more animals! I was astonished to see that the bear habitat is so large, and that there are so many beautiful bears in there. I've never seen so many in my life. Truly wonderful creatures, and a nicely designed area to see them.

Curtis N — Google review

Loved it, it doesn't really need more than 3 hours to enjoy, staff speak some English and were so helpful and kind, bears, wolves, lions, deers, goats and many other nice animals are there, seriously loved it,

Eman A — Google review

Bears and wolves - what more would you want? The kids loved the place, the only thing I was a bit grumpy about was that Google Maps led me through dirt roads instead of the longer but properly paved one.UPDATE: It has changed a bit. There are lions in there now and they are as majestic as you would expect. BUT! The services and food quality took a nosedive and went straight to the abyss. It's so overpriced it's ridiculous, but at least the ice slush and the ice cream both tasted like agricultural byproducts... Seriously, it's highway robbery with a pinch of shamelessness.

Peter M — Google review

This is a very nice and small Zoo where you can see the bears, wolfs and lions up close.Pleanty of parking.About an hour driving from Budapest center

Adi B — Google review

Perfect family day out. Great place for a day adventure with kids. Lots to see, play area for kids and picnic area for eating out.

Eva — Google review

The best handmade horn cakes ever, I asked a Bounty version which isn't on the menu but they made one just for me. Thanks Váci kürtőskalács!

Mike P — Google review

You can see bears, wolfs, lions, lamas, rabbits from pretty close. You can buy food for the animals and yourself, the traditional Chimney cakes are strongly recommended to try (2000 Huf/each).Tickets 2500/1900, food 2000/3000 per person. Buy a ticket and park your car after that.

Mike P — Google review

Nice park, lots of bears, lions and different types of wolves. Other small farm animals also on the site. Good family fun!

Jose C — Google review

There is a playground for kids, we enjoyed a kids train ride a lot. But be prepared that it goes through the dark tunnel ~200m long.We were able to buy fruit-vegetable basket to feed animals, but they weren’t hungry. Most of bears were sleeping, wolfs were disturbingly running around.Food wise, there was only 1 spot with chimney cake.

Elena N — Google review

A beautiful small, child-friendly animal park with a limited number of animals (including bears, wolves and lions) The bear enclosure is very large and completely fenced. You can walk around it and spot bears in an almost natural environment. (there is a large swimming pond for the bears, underground enclosures, a very large open area but also a large forest area where the bears can retreat.) It is beautiful and special to see that these bears, who have been liberated from very poor living conditions including circuses, get a sense of freedom again and can be bears again, without having to perform tricks for people

FolkFerry N — Google review

Its an amazing place, with a lot of animals. It is an amazing initiative. We need more places like this! Absolutely recommended

Péter S — Google review

Now it's a zoo not just bear's. However not really a full zoo just a few type of animals. But nice place to visit.

Tóth I — Google review

Face to face with bears, lynxes, wolves, deers... amazing experiences.Rated 4* as parking is for extra fee, and family tickets only with 2 children...We had food there... it was delicious but portion was a bit small... (not the burgers)Nice family day out...

Szilva M — Google review

Sweet place where bears, wolves, deers, lions and other animals live in a lovely environment. Dont forget to buy some fruits and vegetables for the bears right at the ticket office.Adult admission is 2500 huf, parking is 400 huf, the fruit&vegetable mix costs 600 huf.Playgrounds for the kids! ♥️

Kata G — Google review

Lovely animal park. The bears live in the middle of the park in a very large green enclave that can be walked around. There are also other animals, including lions, wolves, etc. We loved the tiny motor bikes at the entrance, kids could take one and use it to get around the park ( for free). Toilets were clean, the staff kind, playgrounds scattered around the park, there was even a small open train. My 2-year old grandson thoroughly enjoyed himself. Safe and entertaining place for kids - even younger ones, and adults alike. Extra bonus was the food in the small resto, freshly made, delicious and surprisingly not at all overpriced. It was a great experience for us.

Ilona N — Google review

An off the beaten track place, looking after rescued animals. Great value attraction, half day venue.

Leigh D — Google review

This place seems like the animals are treated with priority, they have their big area, food, even a lake to bathe.I enjoyed the walk in the forest and the small train was refreshing on a hot summer day.I truly appreciated that the food sold to feed the animals was a basket of fresh fruits, a lot better than some compressed grass.

Lili — Google review

An absolutely incredible place to visit!

Luigi Z — Google review

Nice place to visit, on a Monday it is totally empty, no crowd. But the shops/market also closed. Only 1restaurant is open, but has all u need. Good to see the bears, wolves in a huge area.. But they are in awful state, looks sick many animals.. Sad looking, shedding and they feel too hot probably😕🤔💔🐻❤️🐺🦁

Tranquil destination for walks amid plants, flowers & trees, with greenhouses & themed paths.

It is always a pleasure to visit the garden, regardless of the season.

An excellent place for open-air classic concerts and lotus flowers. Wonderful music in the largest and most diverse collection of plants in Hungary. Now is the time for the flowering of lotus.

András B — Google review

Excellent opportunity to escape the city into a fabulous green island. Stunning views of the lakes, plenty of paths and exciting greenhouses. You can easily spend several hours here.

Zolt?n P — Google review

We combined the visit with a day trip to Vác end of October. From Vác we took the bus - which has a stop right at the entrance. We didn’t get a guided tour, explored ourselves. - the botanic garden is large, worth to plan 2-3 hours depending on your desire. As for the way back, we took the bus directly to Budapest (check bus schedule in advance)At the time there were thematic installations spotted around which gave a special, local touch to it. The sea of Indian lotuses were really impressive. The lakes are also beautiful. The glass house was fine too.We missed a little bit the signages, name of trees, plants to be stated more clearly.Overall great time, highly recommended

Eszter C — Google review

A beautiful botanic garden where there is always a lot to see

Nóra S — Google review

Very close to Budapest by car. Parking is for free outside. If you like nature, science and would like peace, you can spend 4 hours easily or more here. There is no restaurant close, so if you aim for those 4 hours, perhaps is best if you take food with you. There are a couple of ingenious exhibitions, there are also 2 or 3 greenhouses, all of them interesting and magical. Very much worth a visit.

Renato C — Google review

The botanical garden is beautiful with a nice scenery. It's not to far from Budapest You can easily access it by train or bus . The garden at some areas are neglected and average, but the other side of it is really well-maintained with wonderful flowers and huge trees. You would rather encounter domestic plants here with a few exceptions and I really like greenhouse so much because there have plants from Asian

Nita L — Google review

Very beautiful and not touristic, you can make a nice picnic there because it’s not crowding

Shira C — Google review

This garden is already beautiful from the outside but once you enter the gate, you will discover endless amounts of exotic plants. My favorite parts of the garden are the green houses. There are four houses and each of them represent a separate biome. For example, if you choose the tropical one you will experience boiling temperatures in high humidity and find beautiful flowers like orchids. The only problem is that because of the man-made streams and lakes, there is an unimaginable amount of mosquitos in the Summer; and that it is deadly for people allergic to pollen in Spring.

Gergő Z — Google review

A lovely day out. Beautify the senses. You can bring your hamper but there is a lot of eateries on the spot.

Elena R — Google review

The botanical garden is beautiful with a nice scenery. You can easily access it by bus and the entry fees are normal. The garden at some areas are neglected and average, but the other side of it is really well-maintained with wonderful flowers and huge trees. You would rather encounter domestic plants here with a few exceptions, but it is a nice place for a wedding photoshoot.

Martin H — Google review

The garden is beautiful. We were lucky to come when most of the tulips were opening they were planted everywhere. In general lots of trees, bushes and small flowers are bringing their flowers in the middle of April.Be careful with the glass houses (palmtrees, cactus and orchids), their opening hours are shorter than the garden's! You have to leave them at 3.45pm.

The Heroes Square in Budapest, Hungary is a popular tourist destination that features statues of the seven chieftains who founded Hungary. The square also has a museum of fine arts and the palace of arts.

Majestic place. The square is gigantic. Filled with tourists. Perfect time is during a sunny day. Two sides are covered by gigantic museums. Feels like you have moved to an ancient time. Its a good place to visit when you are in Budapest !

Pranjal N — Google review

Impressive square with a historical significance. There are seven sculptures on each side that depict people that played a role in Hungarian history. There are a lot of attractions in walking distance such as the, City park, House of music, Vajdahunyad Castle, Museum of Fine Arts and more.

Ilan K — Google review

Romanesque looking statues and columns. Huge and stunning. Totally worth a visit and pictures. There added two different museums that are on both sides of the square and the city park is a super short walk from there. Easy to use a city bus to get out to that area, took us about 40 minutes on the bus. It is away from the main downtown areas.

Christina W — Google review

The right side represents literature and arts. The left side represents strength and power....or something similar. It's a nice place to learn about the history of Hungary 🇭🇺.

I_am P — Google review

It was my first time visiting budapest and the heroes square is the first tourist spot i step on. It was a great experience roaming around the city, i may not visit some of the museum, but still it is worth it. And i promise to visit there again

Jay-ar T — Google review

Mind blowing beauty & status to see 7 leaders of tribes who formed Hungary.A monumental atmosphere with huge scale columns in semi-circle form where history is shown to whoever visits here that the Hungarian Empire once controlled a large stake of all of Europe at one stage

Rob N — Google review

Wonderful place , nice pictures you can take, it need 30 minutes and then you can shift to other place. Its near awesome castles by 10 minutes waiting

David Z — Google review

Im giving this a four star as although the monuments are spectacular, and very akin to Vatican city style pillars that curve, there is a huge square that could be much more vibrant but remains bear. Fisherman's Bastion was much more impressive in my opinion.

Tom — Google review

Near the museum of Fine Arts Hősök tere (Heroes' Square) is noteworthy for its Millennium Monument with statues featuring the Seven chiefs of the Magyars. Home to political evens and rallies, access by public transportation makes for a quick visit.

Michael U — Google review

I could spend the whole day taking pictures and meeting other tourists at this square alone. But, better still, there's a lovely agricultural park close by with a peaceful flowing river. It's one of the stops (I think #9) on the hop on hop off tour. Budapest generally is a surprisingly great tourist city. Would definitely visit here again.

Jimi A — Google review

One of the main landmarks in Budapest.Good to visit if you are a history lover. And look forward to information on different topics. We had our good time at this place. You can plan a visit during your next trip to Budapest 👍

Anshulika C — Google review

One of the best places of Budapest. The founder of Hungary, Arpad is to be seen and a lot of other attractions, museum for arts and gallery both in opposition to each other. You must see the Museum of music 200 meters on the red hand side that good small Restaurant ein fantastic Show.

Marian G — Google review

Worth visiting if you combine it with the park just behind it and the 2 museums to the left and right sides. The tallest statue of Archangel Michael and the kings of Magyars through the ages. Four stars just only as they could make something even more spectacular to Hungarian history.

George P — Google review

Huge celebration square built in honor of 1000 years of Hungary. Next to it you can find Metro line M1 which is the oldest metro line build in continental Europe. It is also a part of UNESCO World Heritage.

Excellent spot dedicated to the real Heroes. The area was pretty big in the center of many roads .Pretty interesting site with some really nice statues. It's an open area and at winter, it was freezing.....

Arun G — Google review

Beautiful and famous square dedicated to Hungarian heroes. Stunning architecture and sculpture and close to the city park. The metro station of the same name where you can get the beautiful M1 is located just opposite the square, so definitely worth a visit when exploring Budapest…

Alex B — Google review

The place was truly magnificent. Though we couldn't enjoy it much because of the extreme heat during midday, but a must visit while in Budapest.

Piuli C — Google review

HEROES' SQUAREThe square is located at the far end of Andrassy Avenue, adjacent to City Park, and it stands as one of the prominent squares in Budapest. It's renowned for its iconic Millennium Monument adorned with statues depicting Hungarian national leaders, as well as the Memorial Stone of Heroes, which is often mistakenly referred to as the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. On the left and right sides of the square are the Museum of Fine Arts and the Palace of Art. Be cautious, as in Budapest, there are three additional squares named Heroes' Square.

Orestis - — Google review

No tickets needed, free access to the square. Easy access from the Hop on Hop off bus, it stops right by the square. Tip: public bathrooms are available if you are in need 😊. We went through the week, the end of September 2023. There were not too many tourists. Beautiful spot, great sculptures. A must see when in Budapest.

Eva M — Google review

A magnificent public space. Very noble presentation of Hungarian History. See it throughout the day as the changing light works miracles here

It is located at the end of Andrassy Avenue just before City Park.. It is one of the most visited site in Budapest. One can reach here by M 1 metro line. It was laid out in 1896 to mark the 1000th anniversary of Hungary. At the center of the square is Millennium Monument. There are statues of famous men who made their mark in Hungarian history. At the base of monument there are statues honoring the seven chieftains of the Hungarian tribes who conquered the area now known as Hungary in 895. Worth visiting !!

Traditional market

Food & Drink

The Central Market Hall in Budapest is a large, ornate market hall that is full of stalls selling food and souvenirs. It's a great place to explore and buy local products, and there's always lots of activity going on here. The walkthrough tour is very informative, giving you a good look at the building's history as well as insights into the food stalls.

What a great market ! A mixture of true Hungarian foods such as salami’s , sausages and fruit & veg stalls . Heaps of stores selling the best of Hungarian Paprika. Up stairs is more tourist gifts etc and traditional Hungarian food stalls . A not to miss when in Budapest!

Nifty ( — Google review

A beautiful and large market, intended for visiting tourists. The place is clean, tidy. On the first floor there are lots of stalls selling meat / sausage and stalls selling mainly paprika souvenirs. On the second floor lots of amazing and unique souvenirs as well as fast and delicious food stalls. The place is worth a visit.experience.

This interesting market is located at one end of Elizabeth Bridge. The building is fairly ornate, especially the roof.It is built on two levels - the ground floor features fresh food in all its guises and the second floor features clothes, leather goods and lots more!On the second floor there is also a fast food court featuring authentic street food - well recommended for a bite to eat. You'll find souvenirs here will be much cheaper than the shops.Definitely worth a visit.

A great shopping area with much of joy and tasty bakery products. I enjoyed their special Hungarian cake and cookies. I loved the place, it’s just by the Danube river where you can take the cruise to explore the city and see the popular landmarks such as the citadel and the bridges.

Ahmed D — Google review

Impressive building with an amazing range of local products, souvenirs and foods to try. Great to walk around, shop and eat typical things like Langos! I bought Hungarian sausage and Paprika! Bear in mind some stalls in the centre sell the exact same products than other stalls in the back / corners for a higher price.

Caterina B — Google review

The market hall has 3 levels and is really huge. Everyone will find something for themselves here, we have delicious Hungarian dishes, many different souvenirs, spices, Hungarian sausages, sweets and clothes. Definitely everyone who is in Budapest should visit this wonderful place!

Aber alles in allem, ein toller Rundgang mit vielen Eindrücken:-)(Translated by Google)The market hall is a beautiful construction. It smells of spices and other foreign delights. A colorful variety of goods on display. There are a few small restaurants in the hall where you can eat quite well. Spices and peppers are of course the highlight that is available for purchase. This was one of my favorite sites in Budapest, not only because of the cool old architecture or the huge variety of things for sale here. The best thing about it is that you can see real locals living their real lives, buying, selling, cooking, eating, talking to one another, and enjoying all the sights, scents, and sounds. This is a terrific place to buy paprika of every description!

Marsha R — Google review

This place was amazing!! Wonderful smells, terrific people, excellent food and the place is huge..... Sausage, meat, goulash and music. Guy played excellent music on a violin while we ate. This is a must when traveling to Budapest. Stop by the huge green bridge next door going over the Danube!!!!! We loved it here and the locals that was very kind...... Safe travels..............100% a must stop for any culture.

Interesting place, many shops lot of variety as for example: Grocery, Butche shops, local food bistro, souvenirs. Nice architectural. I do recommend visiting. Keep in mind that although the Central Market is opening early in the morning, starting 6 AM, only few shops are available that time. Most of them are opening later than 9.

Robert V — Google review

Large market in Central Budapest selling food, linen and souvenirs. There are some eateries on the top floor but the number is limited. The market has wide aisles and is very clean. There is that wonderful smell of smoked meat. The other floors are accessible by escalator but you need to search for them.

Andrew L — Google review

My husband and I are big foodies - so naturally, we loved it!!! Most of the people working there know English so they can explain the differences between products and help you make the right choice. Also, if you're getting tired of bringing back the souvenirs in the form of magnets, this is where you'll get everything done! A bag of sweet, smoked paprika, goulash paste, salami... you can truly bring a taste of Hungary back home to share the experience with friends and family.

Tamara B — Google review

Impressive place. The building itself is gorgeous! It is a huge place with an organized market. It has everything. On the second floor it has street food and a lot of souvenirs. it is definitely worth visiting the place.

Korina A — Google review

Fabulous building and bustling market packed with both locals and tourists.Upstairs has a large number of stalls selling just about every kind of souvenir you could ask for as well as numerous places to eat. Of course the prices are higher here but that's to be expected. The ground floor has stalls selling produce of every kind from vegetables and meat to confectionery and alcohol. It's worth visiting just to stand and soak up the atmosphere.

Michael L — Google review

An expansive gothic market building filled with goodies for tourists such as paprika, dolls and the usual gift store stuff. The ground floor back lane is where the locals go to for fresh fruit & veg. Some good cheese selections also.

Julie G — Google review

Central Market Hall was an interesting place to explore, especially for grabbing lunch. However, the restaurant I chose seemed to overcharge compared to other places, likely due to the captive audience. There was a good selection of souvenir stalls and plenty of options for self-caterers, especially in the meat section. Visiting around dinner time, I found it quite busy, so if you dislike crowds, aim to go earlier. The downstairs section was a bit of a letdown, with many stalls closed or permanently shut down.

Liam P — Google review

Lots of meat, vegetables, fruits, spices, etc you can buy here at ground floor. At 1sr floor there are some restaurant where you can eat traditional Hungarian dishes. It was reasonable and so tasty. There are also many souvenir shop where you can find the wonderful present to your friend. You should not miss coming to the Central market hall when you come to Budapest. I’m sure you will be able to spend wonderful time here. Highly recommended.

Taro — Google review

An extremely beautiful market in Budapest.Definitely a must visit for any tourist, especially to understand the culture better. There is an area serving authentic Hungarian food - that was truly an experience I enjoyed. Don't forget to try the spicy Paprika and the Goulash. Incredible stuff.

Docs V — Google review

Worth a visit if you need souvenirs or wanna check out for local market products. Lots of butchers, vegetable stands but most of all souvenirs, so that I am not sure how much it ist still been loved my local Hungarians. But they have a cute restaurant where you can try local dishes, listen to some live music and relax before or after discovering Budapest by feet. The building is nice, but “nicest market hall Europe”- nope ;-)

Conny F — Google review

It is a great place to buy a lot of daily needs. Fruits, Vegetables, Flowers and Meat are all available. A wide variety of products are available. Fresh fish is also available at the basement of the market. It is a popular destination for the tourists and there are several different varieties of souvenirs available. Best time to visit is on Fridays and Saturdays.

Sai K — Google review

Great place to visit, especially for souvenirs, a good place to taste the traditional Hungarian sausage which is delicious! The market is huge, it resembles a train station - you can buy everything from fruit and vegetables to dairy and traditional meat products, spices, handwork and many souvenirs. You can buy sachets with Hungaria's traditional spice - paprika (both hot and mild) and matching wooden spoons, traditional folk costumes or wooden doll cases. It is a must if you visit Budapest!

Maria N — Google review

Excellent building with a great amount of space. First floor is excellent for getting your day to day items, and the second floor has a ton of food items, gifts, household goods, and some clothing/purses/etc. The top floor, during peak times, can get VERY claustrophobic as the isles aren’t very wide and they’re lined on both sides with stalls and shops. The place seems very clean, but there’s no heat, so come prepared.

Elizabeth M — Google review

Amazing building inside and out, more sausages than you can believe and a statue of a man holding an egg...whats not to love. The place to get your souvenirs and fridge magnets. Pretty busy on our visit but a nice place to while away an hour.

Definitely worth a visit or two while in Budapest. The downstairs is primarily groceries, and it is a good place to buy some goodies to take home, like paprika! The upstairs is half food court and half vendors selling local goods. I bought a few souvenirs here. The food hall has great Hungarian options.

For those who love paprika and salami is very good. Also, I found the place clean and not very crowded. There is a good variety of local foods. There is even WC with low cost: €0,50.People in this market we're friendly with me.

Very nice market place, so far I understood that magnets are cheapest here and also big choice, poor choice of alcohols (I was looking for one specific wine and couldn’t find but I guess shouldn’t be that hard, I guess they have basics stuffs like in super markets). Big choice of meat, peppers. I also bought their lavender honey in reasonable price.

Elwira B — Google review

Plenty of choice for local and national Hungarian food. Great location near the river with typically fabulous public transport to the door.Upstairs, you will find every conceivable tourist item available to buy, if that's your thing.Overall, not too bad a visit.

I liked this place, it’s a beautiful large indoor market with plenty options. If you love fresh goods, people watching, shopping, photo opportunities, or just sightseeing in amazing places, you will enjoy visiting the Great Market Hall. The downstairs is primarily groceries, and it is a good place to buy some goodies to take home, like paprika! I recommend it for buying souvenirs, it’s a lot cheaper than other places and duty free. The upstairs is half food court and half vendors selling local goods including fresh fruits, vegetables, meat, hot foods. No matter if it rains or shines, the Great Market Hall is a great option, and definitely one of the top Budapest attractions!

Great experience visiting this historic building. 10k square meters building full of wonderful details. Great little stores where you can get souvenirs or eat a great lunch. I highly recommend it.

Nestled in Budapest's heart, the Central Market Hall beckons with its bustling atmosphere and captivating aromas. This historic landmark, one of Europe's largest indoor markets, offers a sensory feast for visitors.Upon entering, the market's grand architecture and lively ambiance set the stage for an unforgettable culinary journey. Rows of stalls brim with vibrant produce, aromatic spices, and traditional Hungarian fare, inviting exploration. From savory sausages to delicate pastries, vendors offer a tantalizing array of local delights. Friendly exchanges with vendors add to the market's charm, while diverse eateries serve up authentic Hungarian dishes.Beyond food, the Central Market Hall hosts cultural events and cooking classes, providing insight into Hungarian traditions and cuisine.

Worth the trip. Choice of fresh fruit and vegetables and plenty of reasonably priced souvenirs. Definitely a huge tourist attraction so can be busy especially upstairs.

Baiba G — Google review

The local market for food and traditional items remains vibrant. As a tourist there are Local artisans and craftsmen handmade goods such as textiles, and handicrafts available. overall different experience.

Dinto S — Google review

The souvenirs are definitely geared towards the tourists..there are numerous sellers of paprika everywhere. As a market it feels somewhat authentic, but like all central markets in cities, they make the money from the tourists, with a handful of real stalls for the locals. Worth a visit for sure! But don't expect to get a deal.

Michael K — Google review

Look, I’m pretty too the point I’m not going to glorify this market because it’s in a city I’ve never been. To me, it’s a tourist trap. Full of things I’ll just never need. Most of the items are overpriced. I won’t sell you the line of “it’s a must see attraction” because it’s not. There is lots of fruit and meat stalls here. Spices, t shirts, magnets etc etc. we had chocolate and smoothies here. On the top level they have a little food court area, lots of people around so I found it overwhelming. Nobody hassles you to buy items, that’s the good thing or runs after you for money like most tourist trap places. When you first enter the market there is a dark curtain you’ve to push over like your entering somewhere you shouldn’t be or something, I don’t think that’s needed now 😅 I nearly knocked myself out the thing was so heavy. Perhaps it’s good to pass time, pass some hours by looking at everything. For me I was bored after 15 minutes and wanted to explore.

M L — Google review

This is a great place to pick up souvenirs and taste local food. The building itself is really beautiful and worth a visit. The top level is dedicated to souvenirs, while the ground level focuses on food. It can get crowded, especially on the top level. We found some nice little souvenirs. As with other markets around the world, some items are overpriced, but others are reasonably priced. Just take your time to shop around and talk with the vendors.

Ghislain P — Google review

An amazing way to experience the local way of living of Hungarians. There are many eating joints which offer local delicacies of Hungary like goulash etc. Also you can buy many souvenirs at best prices from this market. A lot of variety and options. Do carry some cash with you, the shopkeepers offer discount if you pay in cash 😅Further there is a fresh juice shop located in this market which offered cold pressed juices. Really refreshing and delightful. Must try…

CA G — Google review

This is a ginormous market , 2 Stories, with countless food, drinks, local made products, and souvenirs vendors.Downstairs offers more fresh produce, wine, cheese and meats.Upstairs have more restaurants like vendors where you can order hot food and drinks, then just chill by the high table along side of the walkway.Everyone we encountered is friendly in this market, good service.Prices are negotiable when come to certain items 😉There are restrooms on site. But I forgot if you need to pay or not. But always good to keep some local currency changes on you.Highly recommended to check this market out.

Starr D — Google review

The expansive three-level market hall is a treasure trove for visitors, offering a wide array of delights—from mouthwatering Hungarian dishes and spices to unique souvenirs, sausages, sweets, and clothing. A must-visit spot in Budapest, catering to diverse tastes and interests, ensuring a delightful experience for all.

Vishal K — Google review

We've got the famous hungarian smoked paprika which smells amazing and very happy with it, as well as a bottle of Tokaji wine which we were going to drink when we get back to the hotel, we were really looking forward to it and very disappointingly we did not like it and it wasn't cheap. We've got some "beluga caviar" as well which we were told no need to be refrigerated and it taste like the real stuff, no it doesnt, so don't fall for that trap. We bought Mangalica sausage which tastes really good and it's good quality but way overpriced. We paid nearly £20 for only 0.258 kg which makes it £80/kg. Friendly sellers but ripping you off.

Krasimira V — Google review

Large indoor market in Budapest near the bank of Danube river and here you will find a wide array of food products ranging from vegetables, fruits, meat, cheese, cakes, pastries and Hungary’s favourite paprika. There are 2 floors and souvenirs are sold on the second floor. Easily accessible by public transport via tram or metro.

Ling — Google review

One of the markets where you can buy a variety of vegetables and fruit, as well as a selection of chilli snacks. On the second floor you canstreet food, the portion sizes at the stalls are very large :) Judging by the number of people, it's very tasty:) Stop by and have a snack :)

Mr. D — Google review

Located near the river. Covering 3 floors: basement for fish ( they are not big fans of eating fish so limited stalls ). Ground floor for food. Prices a little high for hot food, so best just look. Top floor best place for souvenirs. Can get busy and very hot in summer.

Steven H — Google review

It's a beautiful place, but wouldn't recommend to buy or eat here as it's really just for tourists.- A lot of stalls sell exactly same stuffs, and the prices can be very different from each stalls.- Food court upstairs, the prices are not affordable, you can have better options in the area outside of the market.- For the non food part upstairs, it's very narrow to walk around and some owners stand on the walk way as the stall is too small when there is people inside. Not to mention a lot of people just like to stop in the middle of the walk way and chatting.Overall, it's just for the experience to visit one of the famous places in Budapest, but won't buy or eat anything here as the prices are "tourist price".Can take good pictures from upstairs.

Cony B — Google review

Historic building from 1896. Central Market Hall - Nagyvásárcsarnok. In this place you will find many shops with vegetables, fruit, souvenirs, clothes and you can also have a great meal here at several possible buffets. We always buy excellent sausages here. We return regularly, about twice a year.

Roman I — Google review

It's a nice place to visit. Aside from selling local foods, there are plenty of stores selling all sorts of souvenirs with prices on average better than on Vaci street.Quite a few dining options but it can get busy during lunch time so I recommend avoiding that time.

Shelby C — Google review

Beautiful but with 35 degrees outside; is was steaming hot inside. If you go upstairs it feels like 50 degrees, dangerously hot (yes i like hot weather) so only go when its a lower temperature

Iante B — Google review

Nice variety of different foods. Fair prices. Good strudels and interesting leather art pieces (bags, etc)Great people.

Luca K — Google review

Inferior architecture compared to the Valencia Mercado Central. More touristy items for sale here as well, but still visited by locals. In terms of food, you will find many regular foods and fewer delicacies (depending on what you prefer). Also visit the cellar (there are stairs here and there).

J. A — Google review

This is the central market place, you can walk easily or take public transportation to it. Inside is quite crowded but you can find many things you need. Fresh vegetables, finest dairy clothes, gifts. Upstairs you can find food, lots of people ordering food, it's very crowded ( keep in mind ). Parking is not right around it but within walking distance, you can find. There are automatic stairs inside.

Tuğçe K — Google review

Large indoor market with plenty on offer. Fresh fruit, vegetables, meat. Local Hungarian wines, spices and sauces including paprika. Fridge magnets, souvenirs and jewellery. Also hot food. Recommend for buying souvenirs~ it's a lot cheaper than other places and duty free

Felix T — Google review

It's definitely worth visiting. Walking around and enjoying the shades indoors will save you from the hot summer days. You can either buy souvenirs, clothes, pastries, or dairy or simply get a lunch break a day and enjoy some goulash. Can get busy, but it is worth stopping

Eldar — Google review

The building is splendid. In addition, it's a real marketplace where you can buy food and other goods. However, take a look at the working hours as the main part closes a little bit earlier than we expected. And though it's supposed to start at 6 am regarding to Google Maps timetable, many of the shops are not open even 1-2 hours later.

Tanya S — Google review

A market where you can find a variety of souvenirs. There are shops to eat but would not recommend to eat there. Lots of options of paprika of course among other souvenirs, but crowded, very crowded space.. Also, you pay for the toilet 1 euro, which is hilarious....

Specialty Museums

The House of Terror is a museum in Hungary documenting the effect of Nazi and Soviet regimes on Hungary and the victims. It includes a permanent exhibit about crimes and atrocities committed by both regimes.

Moving, superbly setup museum on a tough topic.Small museum but extremely well setup for visitors with audio guides in most languages that automatically trigger as you enter a given room. This was a killer feature that made the visit even more easy to traverse.Extremely inexpensive and well maintained. Man’s inhumanity to man is well documented and movingly portrayed.I wish every museum was so well setup. One can spend 3 hours at the museum easily to do it justice.

Venu J — Google review

Very easy to find, nice and quiet place. Tickets cost 3000 per person,if you are EU citizen younger than 26 you get some discounts. They will tell you to not take any pictures, and they try to monitor that very well, not all of them succeed 😊Anyways good experience, well worth the money.

Vilnis V — Google review

This museum is absolutely critical to educate both Hungarians and tourists on the horrors of communism and totalitarianism in the country. The stories, images and artifacts remind us all the value of democracy and how fragile it is, and the high cost we all pay when we lose it.My rating was mostly due to the lack of opportunity to present a more forceful and impactful message, most messages were in the form of videos with Hungarian audio, poor or no English signage made the message dissipate.I hope it is remodeled to create a better impact and easier for the international audience to absorb.

Gabriel S — Google review

Better than I thought!Having read some of the other reviews I thought I wouldn't find it interesting. There is a good variety of exhibits and a good mix of interesting exhibits for those in to their history and not.Did find it interesting the room made out of soap bars and the library. The tank in the entrance is also very impressive.Entry price is reasonable at €10. Apparently photos are not allowed to be taken while inside. The staff seemed friendly though.

Alex C — Google review

Great experience in here! A little creepy but really well made, you can learn a lot more about the dark pages of Hungarian history and feel a real contact with those times... Really recommended! Not good for impressionable people though

Mattia M — Google review

My 10 year old son, and I visited. We did the audio tour which was a bit too detailed and long-winded. We skipped some of the sections, but it was still very informative. The best part is at the end in the basement. We checked our backpacks in the luggage storage, and it worked very well.

Karolina W — Google review

Me and my brother (USA, 18 and 19) spent 2.5 hours here. We did not get the audio guide. Like other reviews - the staff is at the very least NOT friendly. It cost us $23.49 USD for 2 of us - full price tickets (they do not have student discounts for students with citizenship outside the EU area). Almost everything is written in Hungarian, so consider the audio guide IF 1. you have more time or 2. You really like learning /history. There was enough details for us from the many many videos with English subtitles and the one pager descriptions in about half of the rooms. Overall we learned about a side of history barely taught in American classrooms and so I find this to be a MUST VISIT, even with all the negatives. We came in at 10:10 and had to wait 10 minutes in a line to buy tickets. When we exited around 12:45 there was a pretty long line stretching outside the building (probably 20-30 minute wait).

Camden K — Google review

Its difficult to describe a visit to this museum as enjoyable given its focus. But, if you want to learn about the recent history of Hungary, this is a good place to start. We took the audio guide as we were unsure how much would be in English. Turned out that there are A4 sized cards on the wall in each exhibit/room in English you can take out and read. We still enjoyed having the audio guide. My teenager particularly found this museum fascinating. She listened to every bit of the audio guide and read absolutely every piece of information in here she could find. We spent several hours here having a break for lunch. Even if you haven't much time, a walk round over an hour or so will give you a good taste of what is in this museum & if you are an English speaker, the A4 info cards will be sufficient for you to grasp each exhibit. Some of the old videos displayed recounting this time period are harrowing & a sobering reminder of such recent history.

Neep H — Google review

Sehr bewegendes Museum über die Geschichte des 20. Jahrhunderts. Verweildauer ca. 1,5 bis 2 Stunden.(Translated by Google)Very moving museum about the history of the 20th century. There is a lot of video material that is shown, which makes the whole thing a little more approachable. There are printed descriptions in Hungarian and English for each room. There was a bit of a traffic jam on the elevator ride, but still highly recommended. However, with an entrance fee of 4,000 ft, it is not one of the “cheap” museums. Duration approx. 1.5 to 2 hours.

I can finally understand in details the history of this country thanks to the museum. There are 3 floor to understand the whole story that is globally complete. You can also see some historic object and furnitures inside. Altough, you can’t understand the story in details if you don’t speak hungarian so You’ll need audio guide ( 2000 forint ) that have 8 different language. The basement is the best part as it is the most immersive part of the museum… Also, you’ll find more screen in the museum than historical objects so maybe some of you will find it boring if you expect to more see historical furnitures. Plus, the audio guide is incomplete in french ( idk for the other languages ) because the name of paintings and object are not written but it is in english and pleaseeeeee change the headset of the audioguide because it is really uncomfortable so it is a bit annoying to fully enjoy the experience.Overall, I enjoyed this museum and I would recommend it for sure, I think it is a must when you come to Budapest if you haven’t done some research about the country’s history.

PtitYaourt — Google review

First of all the reason I'm knocking a star off is because the staff are so unfriendly and you aren't supposed to take pictures.. I have no idea why that would be though. Otherwise, it's good value for money, educational, and a really interesting place.

Christian H — Google review

A decent place to go if you have an extra day at Budapest. Don't reserve your day specially for visiting this.It is about the history of world war but feels like it's just one side of story (which is totally understandable). The audio guide is recommended, and the entry fee is 10 Euro. It takes around 1.5 hour for the full tour.Taking pictures inside is not allowed.

Udit M — Google review

When visiting Budapest, the House of Terror should definitely be visited and enriches the city trip. In general, this museum shows the time of Budapest/Hungary under National Socialism and the time under Communism. The museum illustrates well how two very different political directions nevertheless intersect in their cruelty. Admission is fine. I would really recommend an audio guide, as there is a lot of information in it and it can be relatively uninteresting without one. I would also recommend visiting at weekends when there are no school groups. There are lockers in the museum for storing valuables. Inside it was very very humid and warm - I would take water with me.

Martin — Google review

I give only 3 stars because the real goldmine of information, documents, images and exhibits is very, very badly organised. The itinerary of the visit is not clearly explained, and one can deduce it only if he knows the history and the events (I did it, but not the same for several visitors, who were wandering inside the venues with no clue of what to see first). The volume of propaganda music and speeches was so loud to overwhelm the audio guide explanations. The captions - when available...- were often only in Hungarian. The wardens spoke NO English at all. Finally, few places to sit.A real pity.

Gianluca M — Google review

This was a sobering exposé of atrocities in the post WW2 and Soviet occupation era. It was a thorough and well documented timeline showing the impact to the daily lives of ordinary citizens caught in the crosshairs of war. The only criticisms are that the museum would itself become another terror in the event of a fire, given the overcrowding of visitors, close quarters and unlabeled fire exits. The English audio guide also portrayed the Hungarian politicians as being forced unwillingly into choosing sides in WW2 due to being squeezed between Germany and Russia, with no mention of their aspirations to retake land lost after WW1.

John M — Google review

The climate in this place is just amazing. So good idea to create this that much scary. The things presented are just facts. There's a lot of videos. Don't take the audio guide as this does not help you to focus on what you see or watch. On the other hand it works just terrible. Sometimes switches automatically (mostly in the rooms with videos) where in quiet rooms without and texts doesn't work and you need to turn on manually. I have found it rather disturbing after just 5 minutes. The organization is half good. That means you start 2nd floor and follow the arrows until 1st floor. Then the access to the basement is something you need to figure out on your own also with direction.

Krzysztof S — Google review

We visited few of communist museums around europe. This one is fine but not the best. If you enjoy history it is must-visit place. Entry was 10€ (4000huf) and not too crowded.

Michal V — Google review

I really enjoyed this museum. I am not sure how intentional this was but having a guard open the door as you entered made the building feel particularly ominous. Getting entry was fast, with an additional cost for the audio tour. The audio tour was useful as it provided extra context and translation for the various rooms. What let it down however is the headsets being really low grade and the handset being glitchy at times and annoying to hold. Since the handsets were low grade it was hard to hear as the exhibits had various videos playing. This made for it to be an overload of the senses in some rooms. There were a lot of school groups in when we visited which also made it annoying to try and view things around them, this could have been managed better as it led to some pile ups in various exhibits. Despite this the museum itself has an impressive history and the exhibits were all varied, interesting and told the story well. You could get a sense of how Hungarians placed real importance in their own people and the world knowing what they suffered under Nazism and Communism. The museum also had a gift shop with a decent selection of items. If you are interested in Nazism and Communism in one of its satellite states or the foundation of modern Hungary I would really recommend giving this museum a morning or afternoon of your time. Try and find a quiet time if you want to take it all in though.

Tom — Google review

Interesting museum about the history of Hungary and the past of the Soviet regime. It can be abit abstract at times and some exhibits have no English descriptions. The exhibit is not that big and can be finished in about 30-45 minutes. The sentiment of the museum is good as you can see the real building and place of the atrocities, but it is not very educational. Museum tours can block whole rooms and passages for other visitors which is frustrating. Staff are just curt and not friendly.

Nat G — Google review

The audio guides are a bit confusing at first. It’s really easy to have to walk into the wrong room and reset your audio guide, but it gets easier. If you don’t know the history at all, I recommend doing some searching online beforehand to get some background information before going in. My knowledge of Hungarian history is almost nonexistent, so the first ten minutes were overwhelming. If you’re a more visual person, hang on until you get to the basement because that is the best part.

Gwendolyn A — Google review

Lots of bad things happened here in this house, use the audio phone if you want to understand something , everything is in Hungarian, no English next to all infos . We just looked and without understanding anything went out 😊but could feel the terror . Maybe I will understand what I saw when I read the book I bought in the museumshop.

Artin S — Google review

Didn't know what to expect from this museum but I was blown away by it. The immersive experience with former prisoners and slave labourers (may God save their brave souls) recounting the hardship they went through was heartbreaking. Please support this masterpiece and do get the audio guide when you pay a visit. It is totally worth your time and money.

Mat M — Google review

Visiting the museum is only comprehensible with audio guides; without them, you're left bewildered (especially if you do not understand Hungarian). While the atmosphere is great (and the overall setup), it's overshadowed by the lack of English explanations for tourists, leaving them at a disadvantage. Important to mention: No photos allowed.

Tobias S — Google review

A good first stop to a trip to Budapest as it helps you understand what Hungary went through and how it relates to some of the other common tourist attractions. The audio guide is a must for English speakers, without it you only have paper pamphlets in certain rooms.I took off a star because of the whole set up. The music was way too intense in one of the first rooms while I was trying to watch the video. The interviews on the wall are also a bit confusing, one would play and then it switches to another screen and then back.

Barry A — Google review

I understand that this place is actually quite expensive in Hungarian terms to visit. Had some interesting stuff to see however the audio guide is extra and the majority of the exhibits only had Hungarian descriptions. There was some guy who was giving a tour to a couple, not sure if he was part of the museum or not but did hear some interesting facts of him. Also free storage for your bag. I don’t think this place is worth a visit for the price.

S B — Google review

The Museum was good, I felt the audio guide is very necessary despite there are some papers with explanations but the info they have are very limited, so in my experience would be more enjoyable and easy to understand if you have an audio guide. The price is 2,000 florins

Henry Z — Google review

Pros:- For a museum about terror, it felt eerie and claustrophobic. The visuals, music and sound all supported the atmosphere.Cons:- They use a revisionist history where Hungarians were portrayed as victims of Nazis whereas in reality, they were allies and enthusiastic collaborators (Hungary chose to join the Axis). This museum fits well with Orban and Fidesz’s narrative.- Almost everything is in Hungarian so you need to get the audio guide. Is the propaganda intended for a domestic audience?- The gift shop contains more propaganda literature about how wokism or Soros is corrupting the world.

L P — Google review

An eye-opening experience that highlights the Communist period of Hungarian history. The rooms are meticulously detailed, each containing pamphlets that vividly describe the scenes and historical context. The audio guides are highly recommended for deeper insights. Overall, it’s a powerful and educational experience that leaves a lasting impression.

Adam A — Google review

I think that the 4 stars on average is an objectively honest review rate for this museum. The most interesting parts in my opinion were the basement (the elevator leading there was quite an experience), and the 2nd floor. An audio guide is unfortunately a must (2000 forints extra) since there is no other way to understand what's going on. However, there's music on the background (louder than I'd like in some rooms) and videos playing in many of the rooms on screens and sometimes the information is just too much to grasp. Good overall, but with some downsides. For an approximate of 15€ (including the guide) is an ok museum to visit if you want to dig into Hungary's 20th century history.

Anastasis S — Google review

An amazing museum and memorial to those who suffered such terrible oppression. It’s a very somber and heart sinking place, but it’s so important to remember what happened. It’s fascinating and emotional in equal measure.

Take your time and enjoy the massive information about the communism actions in these countries.1-Take an audio guide2- rad the papers in the blogs for maximum b3nefit.Really enjoyed the experience with all the ups and downs that took place in that time.Do not forget to write your thoughts at the end of the visit in the big book!

Mark D — Google review

Should have a lot of stories that show the horrible period in Hungary. The poor arrangement not able to bring up the interest and make visitor boring and sleepy. Basically just script with some videos and throw these information to visitors. Unlike other museum or gallery that they don’t allow any photos taking in this house. I would not recommend to waste time

Those who are interested in history should definitely visit. There is annals and documents about the cold war period in Hungary. 4000HUF for adult and 2000HUF for student. It gets crowded in the afternoon.

Concerts & Shows

The Hungarian State Opera House is a Neo-Renaissance building that is considered to be amongst the best in the world when it comes to its acoustic properties. The opera house also houses tours of its gorgeous architecture, as well as performances of world-class caliber.

We came last minute and bought the standing ‘seats’ for 1500 each. Decent view and there is a bench to lean against. Opera Building is absolutely beautiful, I believe it has had a recent renovation. We saw Bach, which was expertly presented although the piece was not to my taste.Well worth the visit, and also easy bough to leave early if standing becomes too uncomfortable.

Christian H — Google review

Amazing building, newly refurbished and the effort that went into it really shows! The acoustics is simply great, the seats are very comfortable and the air conditioning provides an optimal temperature. I'm shocked that I've seen Wagner's Gotterdammerung which is close to five hours and left the hall feeling refreshed rather than tired.Of course this is reflected in the ticket price, but, seriously this is a competitor in the best halls I've ever been to, so it's understandable. I should mention the staff are an awesome bunch of guys, very helpful and non intrusive, I only got my ticket checked at entry.I would recommend this place for any performance because it gives you the opportunity to take some great pics inside and have the joy of listening to a great sound.

Klaus W — Google review

Unfortunately I could not get tickets for the opera performance since everything is sold out for the nearest dates. At least I found out that they provide guided tours in a few languages. The ticket price is 9000 forint, you can book it on their website or buy it there. I really enjoyed our tour the duration of which was 1 hour. The guide was friendly and she shared lots of stories about the Opera House establishment and history. And the building itself is majestic inside 😍

If you are a traveler who couldn't book a seat, you can go to the ticket office on the right side of the 0th floor at 5 p.mYou can reserve opera seats and standing seats on Hungarian National Opera Home Page site.Standing seats are held at 5 p.m.In other words, you can book standing seats at 5 p.m. online and offline at the same time.Standing seats can only hang a hip over a seat. The concert space is half visible, and the orchestra is half visibleFive dollars is enough to feel the feeling and emotion of the opera, and you will thank me.You will feel the best luck in your trip to Budapest. That's how cool it is.한국분들 추천합니다.

Review contains useful advice! ⭐️⭐️100% recommend. Tickets were 9000 HUF per person and they have tours available in English, Spanish, French, German, Hungarian (choosing Hungarian makes the tour 5000 HUF I believe) and I think also Italian. The tour guide was amazing. The tour was very engaging, NOT filled with boring facts but rather learning through actually useful information and funny jokes.⭐️⭐️ At the end of the tour there was a 10 min performance. I recommend trying to grab a seat on the stairs or a view in the middle. We were on the right side and the singing was not heard as well because of the speakers.⭐️⭐️As I remember, the box with all four seats is around €160 so if you plan on going to opera make sure to bring something glamorous like a tuxedo/dress as to not stand out and look like a local 😂

Wow... what a wonderful place! It is definitely worth buying a ticket to visit the opera in Budapest, the cost is 9000HUF including a 1 hour tour with a guide who tells the history of the opera and a 10-minute performance on the end! The concert hall is impressive and very richly decorated! Great impression!

We visited the Hungarian State Opera House and explored the interior without attending a performance. The architecture is breathtaking, with opulent decorations, stunning frescoes, and grand chandeliers. The main auditorium is especially impressive.

We had a great tour today with the English tour guide. Her stories and explanation about the history of the building and how it was used were fascinating. We even got a little opera performance of two great opera stars at the end. So I would certainly recommend to do the guided tour.

When I came to Budapest two years ago, the Opera was not opened to the public due to renovation. Finally, I took a visit to the magnificent building this time. It deserved a two-year waiting any way. The only minor bug was that the guide in this Opera cannot speak English fluently and was not friendly, either.

I can highly recommend a tour in English around the beautiful Opera House. Many thanks to our guide Miss Greta for all the interesting stories. The short concept in the end of our visit was just brilliant.Hope to get tickets for the Opera performance next time.

We absolutely enjoyed the tour of this newly renovated opera house and would absolutely recommend it to anyone visiting Budapest. The building is stunning, the tour was informative and entertaining and they even give the tour group a mini, 10 minute performance at the end of the tour. Five stars without a doubt.

This place is amazing. After just being to the Vienna opera house this place tops it. Very nice and lots of history. Was not damaged in the WW2 like Vienna was.

Beautiful building both outside and inside. We got to find tickets online for half the regular price and they were the best invested 6 EUR of my life. My seats were on the third floor, but the visibility was remarkable considering the actual distance. I really enjoyed the ballet and the wine during the two intermissions.

Big disappointment was the fee for the tour - therefore only seen the free part of this magnificent building. I understand the cost of the operation of this unit but this is an active and national building, with the high end bill tickets of each performances.Beautiful. Magnificent. Gorgeous!Visit if you can afford, at least the free parts. You can’t make any mistakes with that.

Architektonisch sehr schönes Gebäude. Es lohnt sich eine Führung mitzumachen. Die Führung in Englisch war gut erklärt. Es wurde zwischendurch Zeit gelassen um Fotos zu machen und selber zu erkunden. I was treated to such a wonderful tour of the Hungarian State Opera-house, full of history, stories facts and a beautiful intimate mini-performance on the stairs of the main foyer by 2 of their talented performers. We were given a tour as a group all around the building being told about the history of the Opera house, from design to modern day use. Our tour guide was very knowledgable, and clearly passionate about the venue. They not only showcased about the best parts, but also a recent weather leak, that damaged a paining. This made the tour feel very intimate and open.We were at the end of our tour treated to a short private performance by 2 of the theatre’s performers on the foyer staircase, which was such a wonderful show to end or tour.Lastly, even though there was a rehearsal that had been ongoing during our tour, we were let into the auditorium, just as it finished and got to see the stage crew and performers just as they had concluded their rehearsal. This as truly a wonderful insight to see and the cherry on top of, what was such an incredible tour and experience.I would highly recommend this to anyone, and really was a truly special experience.

Honestly, it was a great experience to see an Opera here. Memorable and great for a date or even yourself!Balcony seats are a bit obstructed due to the height and angle of the chairs. You will have a better viewing experience, floor level, or top balcony.BE PUNCTUAL. door closes on the dot, and you won't be able to access it until intermission.20min>intermission>20min> intermission >closing act.Intermission was around 15>20mins, where there was a bar/lounge to purchase beverage and snacks.

We did the opera tour, and it was awesome. They take you through several areas and rooms throughout the building and explain their purpose, history, and artwork/decoration. They then lead you to the balcony section, and eventually to the main seating area. Then they finish it all off with a mini performance from some of their artists. It was a great experience, and we highly recommend.

My sister bought two tickets as a surprise on hour first night staying in Budapest. It was definitely a ‘must’ when you’re there. Both the architecture and the atmosphere were breathtaking! Everyone except a few tourists were following the dress code. That’s why, we were also dressed elegantly for that night. The symphony orchestra’s performance took two hours excluding the half an hour break. I strongly suggest to experience this environment then you go to Budapest!

Illy — Google review

What a stunning, opulent building. We popped in earlier in the week and then booked the hour tour.. delighted to have fitted this in. So informative and just to see the spectacle of the auditorium and the enormous stage with the crew working on a production was a highlight of my stay

Tracey S — Google review

We only visited the lobby due to time constraints, but the opulence of the ceiling frescoes, sculptures, and colorful polished marble was thrilling. We first spotted it while riding by on a bus, and the building’s exterior perfectly expresses the dramatic entertainment staged by opera performers over the decades. I wish we’d had time for a tour.

Marsha R — Google review

Free to go in the entrance. The paid English tour was interesting and shows areas you wouldn’t see during a performance and learn about the history and architecture choices. Absolutely beautiful

Karina H — Google review

BEWARE: if you are going to a performance, BE ON TIME. They don’t let you in even if you arrive 6 minutes late (like I did). You can enter when the break is happening. If you are on a budget and would still want to experience a performance of one of the best operas in the world, go to the office 2 hours before the show and buy a ‘standing ticket’ for only 5€. You have cushions tu lean on. But being standing up is worth it.If you don’t want to feel excluded, wear something nice, opera-nice. But still you can attend with jeans and shirt, as I did.

The Hungarian State Opera House in Budapest is a stunning venue that offers both guided tours and performances for a fee. Stepping inside, you're greeted by its grandeur and beauty, with marble columns and crystal chandeliers creating a magical atmosphere. Whether you're exploring with a guide or attending a show, it's a must-visit for anyone interested in experiencing Budapest's rich cultural heritage firsthand. I suggest to visit it by night as is much more charming.

I joined the tour in English. You will hear, among other things, the techniques used here with gold leaf.I liked the bonus at the end, being a mini opera performance 🙂Definitely need to book in advance.

My partner and I went to see The Queen of Spades on a Tuesday evening. The seats were a good view and were 1/2 price discounted for students. The seats were very comfortable, which was good for an Opera of around 4 hours (with 2 interludes). The Opera house is beautiful, gilded in gold and very well kept, and the staff are all very friendly and smartly dressed. The opera itself was very entertaining - I am relatively new to operas, with this being my second, and I really enjoyed the Tchaikovsky pieces by the orchestra.I would count the dress code as business, the majority of men wearing a button down shirt, smart trousers and polished shoes and maybe a jacket (Which I was too, so no excuse for us tourists!). There was the occasional person in black tie - so it would be perfectly fine to dress more formally too.

Tomos — Google review

the free area at the opera house is already so breathtakingly beautiful and i cannot imagine what the paid tour would be like! the patterns, angles and geometries are fantastic. Really could spend some time looking through the details.

Miranda — Google review

Take a tour, enjoy this wonderful small opera house with lots of historical information and, with a little luck, watch a new stage design being set up. It's 25$/23€ and well worth it, with a little performance included. Also do watch a play. Best to book or get your tickets WELL in advance. Otherwise you'll only be able to get in line an hour before the performance and get, very comfortable, standing room only assigned "seats" for a very reasonable $4,50/4€. It's a wonderful experience. Unfortunately I can't post the coming operas information and the videos of the wonderful interior and impromptu performances.

The imposing St. Stephen's Basilica, built from 1851 to 1905, offers spectacular views of Budapest from its cupola. The building was damaged during World War II, but fortunately most of the mosaics that decorated its walls were saved. This popular attraction is dedicated to Hungary's holy king and the founder of the Hungarian state St. Stephen.

This is very beautiful basilica in center of town. It is one of the postcard image place of Budapest. There is no charge to see the Basilica, it is free of charge but you should give some donation. Also you can go on the top to have a panoramic view which cost you around 10 euro, there is an elevator. There are lots of good restaurant nearby

St. Stephen's Basilica in Budapest is a magnificent architectural gem that left me in awe. The basilica's imposing dome, reaching a height of 96 meters, dominates the city's skyline and offers a visual treat for visitors. As I stepped inside, the grandeur of the interior took my breath away. The ornate decorations, intricate carvings, and stunning stained glass windows created a serene and majestic atmosphere. One of the highlights of my visit was the chance to view the basilica's most precious relic, the mummified right hand of St. Stephen himself, the first king of Hungary. This sacred relic is housed in a beautifully adorned reliquary, and its significance adds a spiritual touch to the basilica's historical importance.Climbing to the top of the dome was an unforgettable experience. The panoramic views of Budapest from the observation deck were simply breathtaking. I marveled at the stunning architecture of the city, with its iconic landmarks and the sweeping Danube River.Exploring the basilica's interior was a captivating journey. The intricate details of the statues, altars, and frescoes were a testament to the skill and artistry of the craftsmen. I enjoyed wandering through the various chapels, admiring the beautiful artwork and feeling a sense of peace and tranquility.Overall, my visit to St. Stephen's Basilica was an absolute delight. The impressive dome, the sacred relic, the awe-inspiring views, and the opportunity to explore its magnificent interior made it an unforgettable experience. I highly recommend adding this architectural masterpiece to your itinerary when visiting Budapest.

ST. STEPHEN'S BASILICAIt is named in honor of Stephen, the first King of Hungary (c. 975–1038), whose right hand is preserved in the reliquary. The basilica features a Greek cross ground plan. While we didn't visit the interior of the church, we purchased tickets from the ticket office located across from the right side of the church and ascended to the exterior balcony encircling the church's dome, offering a panoramic view of the surrounding city. The steps to reach there are quite a few, but the experience is truly rewarding, especially as you reach the vast area beneath the external dome, where you can glimpse the interior dome of the church.

Orestis - — Google review

Such a stunning building. The ticket office is just off to the side. Expect to queue to buy your ticket. We bought the combined ticket which I recommend so you can get the fantastic views from the top. There are lifts to each part but you will have to climb a few stairs regardless. One of the most interesting things was St Stephen's hand kept in a case.

Coralie P — Google review

For sure, it is one of the most impressive buildings in Budapest and Europe. The outside is beautifully lightened during the night, and the details of its facade can be viewed during the daytime. In December, you'll also have the chance to visit one of Europe's most astonishing Christmas markets here. The inside is also a strong recommendation for all tourists. Usually, prices and waiting times are okay if you're not visiting during prime season.

Stephan W — Google review

Beautiful by day, beautiful by night. It's well worth paying to see the panoramic view, especially the sunset. To go up, you have the option of a lift (there are two - with a long queue) and stairs. Be aware that there are a LOT of stairs and spiral staircases. Be prepared 🏋🏻‍♀️

Got the ticket for inside the church, treasury and terrace dome. The Full ticket is definitely worth it, inside is amazing and the terrace views are second to none on this side of the river. The treasury is less impressive and can be missed imo.. There's 307 steps and Further steps at the top so not suitable if you can't climb the steps

Es ist bisher die schönste Basilika welche ich gesehen habe. Der roter Marmor an den Wänden in Verbindung mit Gold, wirkt unglaublich! Das Altar und die Deckenmalerei ist wunderschön. Very beautiful basilica. The exterior is very beautiful with a lot of detail. The interior is grandiose and beautiful. I recommend also going to the top of the church. The museum is a nice addition but not a must. The view from the top is astounding. You can see all of Budapest and all of the other landmarks. You should 100% go to the top. St. Stephen's Basilica, a masterpiece of architecture and spirituality, graces Budapest with its neoclassical beauty. It is as beautiful from the outside as it is from the inside. The soaring columns and mosaic-adorned domes inside look truly gorgeous. Don't miss the panoramic lookout offering stunning city views.

One of the Budapest must visits. Come early as it's very busy here. I suggest getting the rooftop combo package.A striking basilica from outside, it's a great photo opportunity. Inside is mind blowing. Such beautiful and reverence. A true blessing to the almighty creator. There are roped off spots for quiet prayer and reflection. Please take your hat off indoors. A group of Chinese tourists unfortunately showed a lack of respect by refusing to do so.The treasure room is interesting with luxurious and historical relics from previous bishops. The rooftop had great views on rainy or sunny days. It's worth the extra effort. You can take the lazy elevator or take the stairs like I did.Combined ticket is 3500HUF or free for teachers

What an beautiful Basilica! We purchased tickets to hear Ave Maria and the acoustics were excellent. Take the time to wander around inside and see the art and altars. This is a functioning church so act accordingly. The Christmas fair outside is well done and had a lot to offer (much more than Vienna). This is on stop you should not miss.

Indeed, a treat for the eyes. St Istvan’s (Stephen’s) Basilica is one of the best architectures of Budapest. Although we didn’t get a chance to enter inside Basilica, we were delighted by the minute details of the arts engraved on the exterior walls.I am looking forward to visit the church again so that I can get a chance to enter and enjoy the panoramic view of Budapest from its terrace.

Absolutely stunning church, well worth a visit. The inside is beautiful, incredibly ornate and perfectly preserved. If you want an incredible view from the top, but the All in One ticket instead of separate church and panorama tickets, the website is a bit confusing. There over 300 steps which is around 18 flights of stairs, up to the top, but there is a lift if you need it. The views from the top are insane, definitely worth the climb.

An architectural landmark in Budapest. One of the most beautiful and tallest structures. It is worth visiting for some of the most important relics of the nation are housed here.Outside there are a number of bars and restaurants to visit and usually the square is busy with life all year around. During winter months a huge Christmas market can be found here.

Lovely Basilica. The center of the city. Extravagant interiors but nothing different than say, St Peter's Basilica in Rome which is FREE. If you feel like giving a forced donation by buying a ticket, please do make the pope happy!I loved getting the free (voluntary tipping) walking tour with the guy in the red umbrella everyday at 11 am - i tipped as much as the entrance and was the best introduction to Budapest for 2.5 hours.andraci Avenue just behind it is fantastic to walk.

The view from the panoramic terrace is definitely worth the price of admission! You can see the entire city skyline from atop the basilica. I also saw the treasury, which had some very nice art, statues, and various Catholic accoutrements. The basilica itself has some beautiful architecture, finely detailed with statues of many saints and religious figures. I would say that anyone would find this place interesting. If you are a fan of architecture, history, or religion, it's a must-see.

It's not a place to pray for free. The Basilica and its grandeur come with a price: 6,000 HUF. The church hall at a lower fee is worth the money, I think, unless you want to see the surrounding view at the top. The Treasury is composed of very ornate robes, monstrances, and paintings. Going down the spiral steps is not for the faint-hearted or weak knees. 4-man lift is available, but the queue is long. The view at the top of the dome is breathtaking. However, there's no need to pay this extra fee if you've already gone on the Budapest Eye. The church hall is impressive and quite popular with weddings. Its decor is breathtaking, and as with all Basilicas, it gives you that feeling that God actually resides there. If you want to light a candle, make sure you have the right coins as the paying boxes do not provide other methods of payment.

We were so tired of walking all day and at the end we were almost not gonna enter here and skip it but it just made me forget all the fatigue I had. It was breathtakingly beautiful! Yeah I don't get why you'd need to pay a few to enter a place of worship.Having said that, the fee paid is peanuts compared to the Jewish place not too far away, which is absolutely ridiculous.Nevertheless, back to this Basilica.I was impressed by the architecture and design. Truly amazing.

It is one of the largest churches in Budapest. A must visit due to the artistic structure and design and the treasure of history linked to it. You can buy tickets online or on site ( a ticket office near the Basilica - which I did). There are three kinds of access. Also, note the discounted entrance fees for certain categories based on the age.

This is an amazing cathedral and it is worth your time to visit. There are 3 ways to visit. You can just visit the church itself. You can also climb to the top of the dome for fantastic panoramic views of the city.In my opinion the best offer is the grand organ show, which is offered each Wednesday morning at 10am.With the organ show we got to watch an organ master play a variety of organ music, while sat directly next to him as he offered commentary and explanations. A bonus was the chance to take photos of the cathedral from the organ balcony. This was truly an experience never to be forgotten. If you can make it, the organ concert is an absolute must see. Each visit requires a separate ticket so if you want to visit the church, climb to the roof, and watch the organ show, you need 3 separate tickets. You should book in advance for the organ concert.A small point, but the dress code seemed quite relaxed for a Catholic cathedral. I have read articles which state that modest attire is recommended (which it is). However, the staff did not prevent women from visiting, who had relatively short skirts.

Just simply amazing, probably the most grandeur thing in the city of Budapest. The view from the top is also breathtaking, especially during sunset.Be aware though there is an elevator that will take you near the top, you’ll still need to take some stairs more until you reach the viewing platform.

The St. Stephen's Basilica in Budapest is a magnificent architectural marvel that effortlessly captures the essence of Hungarian grandeur and religious devotion. From its awe-inspiring exterior, adorned with intricate sculptures and towering domes, to its serene interior, filled with stunning frescoes and ornate decorations, every aspect of the basilica is a testament to the skill and craftsmanship of its builders.Stepping inside, visitors are greeted by the majestic sight of the basilica's vast nave, illuminated by the soft glow of stained glass windows and bathed in the echoes of sacred music. The intricate details of the interior, including the elaborate altar and the shimmering mosaics depicting scenes from the life of St. Stephen, invite contemplation and reflection.Ascending the basilica's dome offers visitors a breathtaking panoramic view of Budapest, stretching out in all directions, showcasing the city's rich history and architectural splendor. Whether admiring the basilica from afar or exploring its sacred spaces up close, a visit to St. Stephen's Basilica is an unforgettable experience that leaves a lasting impression on all who are fortunate enough to behold its beauty. Entrance is on payment only.

We visited Saint Stephen's Basilica on Wednesday morning around 11, and it proved to be a delightful experience. The interior showcased the remarkable church, housing the preserved severed hand of St. Stephen in a reliquary. Additionally, the reliquary of Charles VI, containing a rib, added to the historical significance. The church's architectural style was impressive, and we were fortunate to be there when the gigantic organ played, creating a captivating atmosphere. We also explored Pandora, offering panoramic views of the city, providing a unique perspective on its dimensions.Overall, our visit to Saint Stephen's Basilica was a pleasant and culturally enriching experience.

A must see, but very expensive to see all of it. At the time of writing this they sell seperate tickets for the inside of the Basilica (2300HUF) and the viewpoint (4300HUG) but the combined ticket was 6000HUF. I would definitely recommend seeing the inside of the Basilica. The top part is worth it if you love panoramic views.

It was an amazing experience the building itself was absolutely magnificent and the architecture humbles you. The inner section of the church takes you back in the era of kings and kingdoms and the artwork was truly something else. Last but not least the view on the floor is awe-inspiring I was left stunned from you could all of Budapest.

Spectacular church, opulent from every angle. It is certainly worth a visit while in Budapest. The treasury is a little disappointing as it's very small..the view from the tower is impressive. Expect to take some 145 steps. However there is a lift (and toilets mid way up).Like St Peters in Rome it is a masterclass in craftsmanship, and work that can be enjoyed by any regardless of faith.A certainty for a visit while in Budapest.

The intricate details and grand design make it a true icon of Budapest, one that invites visitors to pause and reflect on its beauty and historical significance.Walking through its majestic halls and viewing the stunning interior is a thought-provoking experience, leaving a lasting impression on all who visit. The Basilica’s dome offers panoramic views of the city, adding another layer to the already profound experience of this sacred space. As an International Remote Personal Trainer and Life Coach, I often speak about the importance of finding places that inspire and elevate the mind and spirit. St. Stephen's Basilica is one such place, where the atmosphere alone can provide a moment of peace and reflection, enhancing your overall well-being.I highly recommend a visit to this architectural gem. Whether you're exploring Budapest for the first time or are a returning visitor, the Basilica's magic is something you simply must experience🤗

Daniel B — Google review

Went for the English mass, which started ten minutes earlier than expected. Beautiful church. The Maria Chapel is exceptionally peaceful. Simpler than the main basilica for sure, but worth a visit for pilgrims.

Liam A — Google review

If you're visiting Budapest, the Basilica is an absolute must-see. This stunning architectural marvel is not just a feast for the eyes but also offers an enriching cultural experience. The highlight for many visitors, including myself, is the organ concert held at 5 PM. The acoustics of the Basilica paired with the skilled organist create an unforgettable auditory experience that resonates deeply within the grand walls of this sacred space. Whether you're an architecture enthusiast, a lover of classical music, or simply seeking a serene and beautiful place to reflect, the Basilica in Budapest will not disappoint. I highly recommend scheduling your visit to coincide with the organ concert for an experience that is truly sublime.

I’ve been traveling around Central Europe for the past 2 weeks and I’ve not seen a queue this long to purchase entry tickets to a cathedral. Attempted to purchase tickets online but somehow the website wasn’t working so I returned the next morning before the crowd. There’s several ticket option - church and tower & treasury and a combination of both. There’s a lift that goes almost to the top of the tower with amazing views of Budapest.

Ling — Google review

There’s no words to describe so much beauty. It’s absolutely stunning! Besides the history of it, all the frescos, paintings and sculptures, the size and so much respect you feel since you step in is unbelievable. This is must visiting Budapest.

Gonzalo L — Google review

Big and glorious. Nice and cool so it beats the heat in July 90s very lit up so you can see everything. Kind of crowded but not too bad. Marbles and colors are soothing. Lots of gold ornate decorations. Candles. Seating for tired feet's. It's not cheap but within reasonable cost to enter.

Kendrick R — Google review

Spectacular Catholic church in the heart of downtown Budapest. Beautiful adorned domes. Spectacular structure in every angle. It was a nice place to visit for everyone regardless of his faith to learn about Hungary and its religious history.

Credible C — Google review

Awesome, get tickets for the Friday evening Organ concert, it's wonderful at around $23/20€.I did get the panoramic view and treasure ticket as but could've done without. The inside of the basilika is well worth it. However try to get your tickets online as there is a huge line.Easy to reach via public transportation, no need for the expensive hop on/off busses.65+, students etc get discounts.Disabled get in free, but still need a ticket.

Chiquita M — Google review

Magnificent Basilica with ornate exterior and an impressive interior - it's size is massive but the chappels are nicely decorated. We were lucky enough to see a wedding as well, while visiting. The ticket for the church could be slightly cheaper though, to represent the time that one can spend there. Of course the plaza in front of the church is massive as well, with nice cafes and restaurants around to rest.

The Liberty Statue, a minimalist monument erected in 1947, stands on the Buda side of Budapest. It serves as a commemoration for those who sacrificed their lives for Hungary's independence and freedom during World War II. Positioned atop Gellert Hill, it offers breathtaking panoramic views of the city and the Danube River. Visitors can access the statue by taking a taxi to the hilltop and then descending on foot.

One of the kind off must visit view point in the city. Good place and one of the best location to have a panoramic view of the city. Lots of local stalls present to buy momentos to carry back home. Pleasant view but usually bustling with people.

Ashish S — Google review

One of the must-sees on your Budapest trip. Beautiful panoramic view. Unfortunately, the memorial closed for renovations, but we were still able to enjoy the breathtaking views of this magnificent city. Good place to go for trekking.

Yuvi J — Google review

The whole place is under construction so you can not get in. But it was a good hike in the morning we hiked here from Bada castle through the hill trail, it was good. The best time is early morning or late evening to see the city.

Pranav R — Google review

Even thought the place was closed, the way all the way up there was long but a nice walk, the view from up there is incredible! It was worth every step.

Aline B — Google review

Walk till the statue is really good. I went in the evening, and it was well lit, hence safe. From top you will be able to see good view of Budapest's iconic places.

CLINT D — Google review

A healthy hike up the hill with very nice panorama views of the city. The statue is sadly currently (July 30, 2022) under maintenance with a fence around it, but you can still get a decent look at it! Overall definitely worth the climb.

Mat?ss A — Google review

A beautiful monument, too pity that it was close for renovation. The view over the city is great here!

Roxana I — Google review

Despite being locked for renovations, the walk up the hill to the citadel was so worth it. The beauty of this area in plain autumn is beyond incredible. And the views over Budapest are simply amazing. Go and enjoy the walk, the views and the beauty around.

Ivan G — Google review

Awesome panoramic views in the view ponta available as you climb (hills and stairs). It’s worth the healthy and long climb but the place where the actual Liberty Statue is, in the very top of the hill, is closed off with a fence all around it. People walk around it by holding on the the fence and risking their lives. Not for the faint of heart but if you like living dangerously, by all means do it :)

Ana S — Google review

ITS CLOSEDSo you can still get near the top but the site is under construction. At the top there is a cafe with plastic tables, it’s not a restaurant and you can follow the footpath to a series of view points. You can still get a great view but you will be disappointed if you want to get to see the statue. It takes about 20 mins uphill walk, or we went by scooter. There is a scooter park at the top by the cafe. But be warned many of the scooters are out of battery at this stage.

Jake M — Google review

What a great place and a great view. While walking up the hill, there was a park in between where kids were playing. There were very nice sitting areas with a great view. The view was just mesmerizing. However, these days the statue of liberty is closed but you can still go till the top and enjoy the great view.

Sarah W — Google review

Still closed, the closest you can get being the steps. The climb is short but steep, better late evening. The view is incredible though, some places it all looks unkept, worth going though.

Bridge

Sights & Landmarks

The Szechenyi Chain Bridge is a beautiful, historic bridge that spans the River Danube linking Buda with Pest. It was designed by William Tierney Clark and built by Scottish engineer Adam Clark, and it remains an iconic symbol of bringing people together. The bridge is particularly striking at night when it is illuminated withThousands of lightbulbs.

Yes, this architectural jewel is just as majestic as you have heard. The unique bridge that connects Buda and Pest is a must for photos and walks. The feeling of walking on something like that is amazing. Of course, don't forget to see it at night. It's great!

Travel T — Google review

This bridge has a very good presence connecting between two important pieces of land with its lions guarding its entrance and exit reflecting the power of good art that may take you to another level of amazement.I enjoyed the place but I think it needs a small area of chairs with sun protection to better spend time at this amazing spot. You can see the parliament building and the fisherman castle from this location.

Ahmed D — Google review

The "chain bridge" is undergoing reconstruction. What a pity, I would have loved to stroll over it. But there are other bridges over which you can cross the Danube - for example the "Elisabeth bridge". An impressive iconic bridge with stunning architecture.

Not the most spectacular bridge I have seen and in Budapest alone its my top 3. All that said it offers a very beautiful view. Best is to sit close on one of the boat bars/restaurants and look towards the castle at night. It makes for a very memorable evening.

Emil — Google review

The bridge is now reopened to both pedestrian and vehicular traffic after being closed for renovations. Absolutely worth visiting and having a stroll across this stunning, historic bridge. A must see when in Budapest!

FKK C — Google review

For me this is the most beautiful bridge I have ever seen.I’ve seen it by day and by night and I can say it was well taken care of it. I think the paint on the metalic parts was recently renewed. The sculptures on it are nice, the lions that guard it at both ends are also giving a nice vibe. Also, when you go by boat under it is an interesting sensation.A very nice landmark I could say.

Andreea D — Google review

MOHAN K — Google review

One of the most unique and beautiful bridges I have seen. It is undoubtedly an architectural marvel. This bridge connects buda and pest and is a treat for eyes. The night view is just as beautiful as the day. Great to take photos too.

My experience on Széchenyi Chain Bridge was nothing short of extraordinary. Its timeless beauty combined with its historical importance make it a must-visit attraction in Budapest. Whether you are strolling across it during daylight or admiring its illuminated splendor at night, this bridge will leave you with lasting memories and a deep appreciation for human ingenuity.First and foremost, the bridge's design is truly breathtaking. The grandeur of its stone lions guarding each end and the intricate iron chains that hold it together are a testament to the skilled craftsmanship of its creators. Walking across this bridge feels like stepping back in time to an era when attention to detail and beauty were paramount

Very nice structure. Really impressive for its age. You can walk, or enjoy through the bus 16, or, can cycle as well. Great views can be seen from the Buda castle area.

One of the iconic bridges in Europe, opened in November 1949. It is a chain suspension bridge and a monument that evokes Hungarian nationalist feeling of the mid-19th century and to Hungary's recovery from the destruction of the Second World War. A landmark, easily recognizable both day and night

CK C — Google review

It’s an iconic image of the city of Budapest. That’s why, there’s always a crowd but you can still manage to get good shots after waiting for a few minutes. It offers a pleasant view, however, I gotta say that the wind is pretty strong over the bridge.

Its a bridge that joins the old towns of Buda and Pest. It's both practical and beautiful. Very close to the hotel we stayed in, so an easy walk to get there and get over. It is pedestrian and public transport only, but the pedestrian bit is quite narrow. On the north side is the funicular that goes up to the castle. It's a great walk to get there if the weather is good.

Dave S — Google review

Absolutely magnificent! The lions, the views from it, the views it is in it, the walk on it, Great bridge. The only thing that could be better is if there are no vehicles and it's just pedestrian. But even now it's awesome. And the lights at night make it glow and shine in gold.

The Famous Szénchyi Chain Bridge does all its talking. They built a humongous bridge holding onto chains, it's a top sight to watch in the day as well as night.Major tourist attraction place where you'll find people walking & clicking themselves at loads of places, different bridge angles looking for spectacular views.

This is another landmark of Budapest. An ancient bridge with beautiful rich architecture, which offers beautiful views of the Danube and both banks of the Hungarian capital. The bridge is quite crowded, but you can easily find a place for yourself to take a photo or just admire the flow of the river.

The iconic chain bridge connects the city of Buda and Pest , just reach here and many places are walkable like the Hungarian Parliament and the view point , there are many ferries to take the ride and see the happening city of Budapest .Just a little walk and you can see the history and the famous shoes by the Danube river

Sights & Landmarks

The Shoes on the Danube Bank memorial commemorates the 3,500 people who were brutally murdered by Arrow Cross Party members during WWII. The bronze shoes that are scattered about the riverbank just a short distance away from the Hungarian Parliament Building make for a moving sight.

A very historical surreal experience. And it was lovely to walk down the whole Danube promenade where there are plenty of other statues too! There are not scripts to tell you the story behind the shoes if you don’t already know. So googling the history is advised

Emma H — Google review

Nice location. Interesting story behind the shoes. Detailed metal work when looking at the shoes. This is a nice place to visit if you're local or a tourist. The views along the river bank are great and there is some amazing architecture! Worth a visit if you are ever in Budapest. Located right next to the parliament building.

Abel E — Google review

To get there you need to walk right on the edge of the river. We were there after a few days with heavy rain, which made it muddy 🤷🏻‍♀️ as there is no real pavement. Hope that in time they will build the beautiful promenade. The memorial itself was heavily decorated with candles, flowers and traditional jewish materials. It is a beautiful memorial, sad, melancholic.Would benefit from some lighting at night.

Andreea L — Google review

beautiful but harrowing monument. wish there was some information around it though. gets very busy - so best to go earlier in the day.

Betty G — Google review

It could get very touching if you know the story behind this. Looking at the monuments could bring you back to the devastating moment. Along the street and river there were many nice architectural buildings, not to mention the parliament that took us in awe.

Tan C — Google review

Heartbreaking- you can feel the terror and imagine the brutality. It is unimaginable how cruel and barbaric the Nazis and the eager evil Hungarian Iron Cross were, but this exhibit reminds us. Had my grandfather not left Budapest in 1921, our family would have surely been murdered as well.

Deborah G — Google review

It is a monument of a jewish victims in WWII. They ordered them to put off their shoes here. Definetly worth visiting and remember the victims. You can visit it for free walking by the Danube just in front of the Danube bank.

It's absolutely haunting, but an experience which is a poignant reminder of the brutality which impacted upon so very many people which should never be forgotten

The "Shoes on the Danube Bank" monument is a poignant expression of art and memory in the heart of Budapest. This monument captures the essence of remembrance and respect for the Holocaust victims in a deeply personal and visual manner. By depicting the shoes left on the Danube's bank, it evokes the humanity of those unjustly taken from this world. Its powerful simplicity invites reflection and engagement with history, making it an essential space for memory and education for future generations. Undoubtedly, this monument not only honors the victims but also bears witness to the resilience of the human spirit in the face of adversity.

The Hungarian Parliament Building is an iconic landmark in Budapest and one of the oldest in Europe. It is home to the National Assembly of Hungary, and is one of the largest buildings in the whole of the country. The building is decorated with lavish Gothic Revival-style decorations and features a spectacular dome.

This is a truly beautiful Building, I can only imagine all the important history that this place has had. The grounds are fantastic and provide some breathtaking views. In my opinion the parliament building really comes to life in the night. I would also recommend taking an evening river cruise to see it at its full beauty.

Conor — Google review

Wonderful architecture in Europe! It is Budapest's most recognizable building. From every angle, it appeared magnificent. Stunning location with trees, gardens, and of course historical landmarks. The architecture is huge and quite detailed. Stunning view of the entire building. Although I was unable to enter, I was able to appreciate it from the outside.

??????? ? — Google review

This is one of the largest parliament buildings in the world as the Hungarians saw Westminster and wanted to make their own version but slightly larger and I believe it is actually bigger than Westminster by about 20 feet. I recommend seeing it at night though from a boat ride when it's lit up. It's really beautiful.

St. K — Google review

This is a very impressive building, outside and inside. I was really looking forward to visiting it. However, only a few sections are open to the public, and that was disappointing considering how big this place is. You are not allowed to take pictures of where the crown is, but the room is astonishing. Guides are very nice and knowledgeable. If you have a European passport, the entrance is about £12. If you don't, I think it's twice as that.

Aleksandra B — Google review

Building is beautiful no matter which angle you see. The best time to visit is in the morning and late evening especially from the boat. You can also visit it from inside but only with the tour which lasts about 45minutes. Tour is organized in different language but needs to booked in advance if for English.

Omg. One if the gorgeous buildings that I have ever seen before. This building is so perfect inside and out and during daytime and nighttime. Very beautiful and magnificent structure. We booked a English guided tour of the Hungarian Parliament Building which lasted for about an hour and half. The tour was amazing and you get to know some interesting facts about the parliament building and Hungary history. This is really a must to go destination for Budapest. Here are a few tips to know before you plan your trip for the Hungarian Parliament -Try to book the tickets online from their official website well in advance (2-3 weeks in advance) since the tickets get sold out very quickly. For e tickets, you need to exchange your e tickets with the physical tickets.Chances of getting a ticket on the spot from the ticket counter is very difficult. However, if you want to try, reach the ticket counter around 8 am in the morning (it's opening time) and you might get a few tickets for the day.The ticket counter does not sell advance tickets. They only sell tickets available for that day only. Use online booking as much as possible and plan weeks in advance. This will be a audio guided tour where in you receive a radio and a headphone. The tour is available in multiple European languages including English. Please Note - You can buy the tickets with any language available for a time slot, once you enter inside, once you get the audio guided machine, you have the option to select the language of your choice. Thus contradicting the entire idea of slots based on languages.Last but not the least, the tour is amazing.

Budapest most famous building. Huge and amazing Parliament with a stunning architecture. Unfortunately we were unable to get inside, therefore I recommend buying tickets online well before you decide to visit the Parliament. Worth a visit and definitely you can take some amazing pictures here.

One of the most beautiful buildings I’ve ever seen. It is the third biggest Parliament house in the world and one of the most beautiful parliaments according to me.Once you go inside there are some guided tours (approximately 45 minutes) that can provide you with useful information about the parliament and history. They are offered in many languages including English, German, Spanish, Italian, etc. It's good value for money at around 10 Euro.Certainly it looks much better from outside it's massive and very photogenic. The area around it is very well designed & landscaped. It’s very symmetrical and gigantic. You can not miss the sight from almost anywhere around the Danube from many kilometers. The inside view of this beautiful monstrous building is equally incredible. If you are in Budapest a visit is really a must. The night view from a far distance looks like a royal gigantic palace with a beautiful reflection in the pristine waters of Danube.

Visiting the Orszaghaz Building in Budapest is an experience that should not be missed. Its stunning architecture, rich history, and cultural significance make it an essential stop for any traveler seeking to immerse themselves in Hungary's past and present. The main hall features a magnificent staircase that leads to various chambers and rooms filled with historical artifacts and artwork. The attention to detail in every room is remarkable, from the beautifully painted ceilings to the exquisite furniture.

A spectacular sight and must see on an any visit. Highly recommended the tour where they take you around the parliament and you are given an audio guide to follow. You get to see the grand staircase and the guarded crown of Hungary. You also visit one of the legislative chambers. On the tour you get to learn about the history and design of the building and its influence. Recommend visiting inside and out. Lit up fabulously as night.

Beautiful! 🤩I went to see this building a couple times from the outside both at night and day. It is definitely worth the visit especially at night where it’s all lit up. The view from across the Danube is also beautiful.I would definitely recommend going to see if in Budapest.

Known as the most beautiful parliament building in the world, this is a must visit when in Budapest. Yes, it's already stunning from the outside, but it's also worth to do an audio tour. The guided audio are in certain languages, but that only means the guide is explaining a few participial things. The audio tour itself can be done in about 23 languages, which makes it very accessible. There are stairs, but for those who can't walk them, a lift option will be offered by the guide. The tour itself is interesting and the inside is just as impressive as the outside. The building is surrounded by statues and greenery. The statue on the left has a water mist system in the ground which is great on a hot day.

Beautiful building. Evening view with lights is lovely. Night lights are on till 23:00 so make sure to enjoy the view when the lights are still on

Farrux A — Google review

The parliament building has beautiful architecture and design inside and is worth the tour even if you're not interested in the history. Make sure to book in advance because I suspect it's always fully booked. The audio guide is informative and I learnt a lot about the history of the Hungarian parliament. I have fairly small ears and the ear piece was far too big so I had to spend the whole visit holding it in, however. The tour only lasts 45 minutes but it is good.

Frances D — Google review

Splendid and dazzling architecture, it's so beautiful to appreciate it from different angles and at different times in a day. Make sure you book a river cruise to view this enchanting building along the river Danube.

Tsung L — Google review

Stunning building! It’s absolutely worth seeing it. There is an option to visit the inside too but you have to buy a ticket. You can buy it online but you must print it as they require a hard copy on the entrance. You will receive headphones and you can select the language you prefer. The tour is quite short though.

Hyulia B — Google review

One of the best monuments in Budapest city. It is worth visiting mainly during the night when it is lighten up with beautiful lights. Maybe you can combine this visit with a cruise in Danube, where you can see the whole building from inside the river. Its truly astonishing.

Beautiful building in a neogothic style. Every piece of decoration and furniture is made by an hungarian craftsman. The tour isn't to long, about an hour. You are visiting the grand staircase, one of the main rooms in which legislation is made and passed, and the gallery with the crown jewels.I recommend buying tickets online , at least one month in advance, because on the site you can buy thicket only for the current day.If you want to buy thickets there I recommend going at the first hour of business, you have to be there at least at 8 am.

Maria R — Google review

It’s awesome, love Budapest, I have to back, there are a lot to discover and the Hungarian are doing a great job to attract the tourists, so in the next years will be better for sure.

Anders B — Google review

Despite I've been in Budapest many times, every time I'm in Hungarian capital I pass by this amazing building. For sure, it's one of the most beautiful and spectacular Parliaments not only in Europe, but worldwide. It's best seen from the other, Buda side, so do not hesitate to come both day and night when it's fab illuminated.Do the tour which is very informative and shows you the indoors splendor

Sights & Landmarks

Buda Castle is a large, imposing castle complex located in Buda, Hungary. The palace and grounds once belonged to Hungarian kings and queens, and are now home to the Budapest History Museum and the Hungarian National Gallery. Both museums are well worth visiting for their vast collections of art and history. In addition, the district of Castle Hill contains several important historic attractions, as well as a lively baroque quarter known for its restaurants.

Absolutely amazing experience. Something very unique in Europe. You must visit during day and night to appreciate the beauty and views. Very well renovated and maintained castle. Had the opportunity to visiting during Xmas. Beautifully lighted Budapest. Kudos to whoever in charge!

Krishna B — Google review

I was a little worried about the weather as it rained the night before but the sun stood strong and we were graced with a beautiful view of the city.Entrance to the museum was free due to the public holiday and going up to the top of the tower was not a long wait eitheronce we got to the top we were definitely not disappointed. You do have to be prepared to leave any large bags and coats behind in a free cloakroom. There was about 2/3 minute queue for this. They do allow you to take your phone up through the museum. It may have been because of the public holiday that we were also graced with seeing a short parade outside the main entrance - which was fun and then they stopped for a photo shoot! There are two lifts that will take you up from the bottom to the top which is great for those who are hard of walking or with young families. There was hardly any queue for this. That also steps that can take you up.There are some construction work going on, but this does not take away from any of experience.Definitely worth coming out to see this.We did not buy any food/drinks- so cannot comment on this

Must visit place! Every inches of this city is really beautiful and even more to see them from up top! And the best part is, there is escalator and elevator for those who doesn't want to and/or can't climb the stairs. The way they make things convenient for tourist to go up there easier is very generous! Definitely one of the free place you can go to in Budapest!

Bia — Google review

Its a very big castle and will take a long time to see complete surroundings. Entrance to the nearby park is free , for going inside you need a ticket. Monday there is no entry inside castle, other days it will open at morning 10 o clock. Night view of the castle is awesome with lights. And morning sunrise also beautiful from here

Jayeshmon C — Google review

A very impressive building, or collection of buildings on a hill with quite the spectacular view!Changing of the guards is always a good show, I didn’t use the fenicular, but if you don’t want to walk up that’s a good option for you.Museum was interesting, very much a maze of corridors, stairs and tunnels but all good. You can walk the grounds for free but need to pay a small amount for the museum, no bags allowed in the museum but lockers are provided for free.

Keri B — Google review

By night the castle looks great, but when you get there by day the situation changes. The palace looks like no one is taking care of it - the walls on some parts have the painting fallen. We only went in the yard of castle, in front of it. The entering gate was very beautiful, with sculptures on it and a very nice fence.Inside the castle is an art museum. The place is full of tourists.

Andreea D — Google review

Buda Castle is well worth the visit! We took bus 216 up the hill, which made the journey easy and convenient. Exploring the castle grounds was a delightful experience, with stunning views and rich history at every turn. After taking in the sights, we made our way down the hill on foot, which allowed us to fully appreciate the beautiful surroundings. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Budapest.

Baiba G — Google review

Magical and majestic! You can easily explore this phenomenal castle all day. Still, it won't be enough - you'll want to come back the next day. Great place for a walk, for photos, for rest. Unique atmosphere, so beautiful and magnetic. Incredible panoramic views of the Danube and Pest!

Travel T — Google review

Lovely castle and a most see tourist attraction.Offering a great panoramic view of Budapest from multiple viewing points.Explore the premises and enjoy the architecture, sculptures and lively garden. You can visit the castle grounds throughout the week at all times, without a ticket. The national gallery and the historic museum have their opening hours and you need to purchase individual ticket for each.

Ilan K — Google review

Great structure on the top of mountain, beside the river Danube. Sprawling across a large area. The views are breathtaking. You can either take a fernacular or walk. The walking is not too tiring and you get to see a few viewpoints as well. I have not entered the museum and hence cannot comment. But the place was empty early in the morning, like 8:30 AM. Also the bus 16 is the best option to visit the castle from the Pest part of the city. This bus directly links to Tram 2. Overall, great experience.

Sumanta C — Google review

Awesome view of the Pest side from above! Some restaurants to eat and beautiful architecture! You can get up by elevator and would definitely recommend seeing little stalls beneath the castle as they have interesting souvenirs - there is also a big terrace with the view of Pest nearby. Not so crowded despite the weekend

Sfinksior — Google review

Awesome palace with many things to see for free.and great view towards Danube River. No worse than the view from the freedom citadel. Hiking takes around 10 minutes, I don't think the cabin escalator is that worth it, but if you want to try it - know there will be a line for it! I mostly liked.the view, but there are also galleries and exhibitions, among the thousands of people 😂

Marin K — Google review

One of the most iconic buildings of Budapest, the castle is rich with history and culture. It's currently being used as a museum and art gallery. One of my biggest regrets of the trip is not being able to go inside due to time constraints. Will definitely return.

Andy Z — Google review

Honestly no words to describe this beautiful site. This is worth a visit to anyone, whether during the day or the night, it is a spectacular sight to behold. All I can say is, check it out for yourselves. The views will absolutely rock your world and if you're like me and love taking pictures, then prepare to take over a dozen on the awesome panoramic views.

Visiting the Royal Castle of Budapest was a delightful experience that I highly recommend. The castle itself is stunning and offers a captivating glimpse into the city's rich history. You can easily spend a couple of hours exploring its grand halls and picturesque surroundings. One aspect that I appreciated was the availability of a student discount, which made the visit even more accessible for those on a budget. It's always great to see attractions that cater to students and offer discounted admission fees.Overall, the Royal Castle of Budapest is a must-visit destination for anyone interested in the city's cultural heritage. Its beauty, historical significance, and the added benefit of a student discount make it an even more enticing option for visitors.

Abdulaziz A — Google review

We visited the museum that is hosted inside the building and it was nice. We were just a bit disappointed because there was only one reconditioned room which was indeed exquisite and with many architectural details. The audio guide concentrated on this room and it was quite surprising to find out that there was nothing left from the original old room, everything was a copy.We recommend at least visiting the yard of the building since this is free and worth it. Otherwise, the price was a bit high for what we saw compared to other museums in Europe.

Ana M — Google review

I visited the Castle walking with my friends from Marriott hotel on the other side of the river. The green dome on top of the building is obvious from most of the areas in Budapest. I enjoyed watching every details during my walk. There are a lot of locations to take nice memorable pictures. Make sure you visit the Fountain of King Matthias. This historical building has a lot of art works that will make it such an experience. The building design is amazing. The location of the Buda castle in top of a hill.

Jamal A — Google review

Beautiful castle and great view over the city. The walk up the hill was ten minutes, so that is recommended instead of taking the lift. If you walk, you can stand on a bridge and see the lifts go up and down also.

The Budapest Castle District, a jewel nestled atop Castle Hill, offers a mesmerizing blend of history and architectural grandeur. As you wander through its cobbled streets, the diverse array of architectural styles, from medieval to baroque, tells a story of the city's rich past. At the heart of the district, the magnificent Matthias Church stands as a testament to Gothic architecture, its intricate spires and colorful roof tiles creating a captivating skyline. The interior of the church is equally impressive, adorned with stunning frescoes and stained glass that transport visitors to a bygone era. Just a stone's throw away, the Fisherman's Bastion offers breathtaking views of the Danube and the Pest side of the city, its fairytale-like turrets and arches evoking a sense of whimsy and wonder.Adjacent to these historic marvels is the Hungarian National Gallery, housed in the grand Buda Castle. This gallery is a treasure trove of Hungarian art, showcasing a vast collection that spans from medieval times to contemporary works. The seamless blend of history and art within the gallery's walls provides an insightful glimpse into the cultural heritage of Hungary. As you stroll through the Castle District, the charming boutiques and quaint cafes add to the area's allure, inviting visitors to relax and soak in the atmosphere. Overall, the Budapest Castle District is not just a historical site but an enchanting experience that leaves a lasting impression with its stunning architecture, rich history, and vibrant cultural scene.

One of my favourite places in Budapest. Just been there to see the cherry blossoms. Absolutely breath taking. Seen The Mátyás church there very beautiful 😍. It's a very good place on the hill and very nicely maintained. You can go in the castle district by bus which is easily accessible. Don't forget to buy the tickets for public transport 😉!

I visited Buda Castle in Budapest, and it's definitely a must-see in the city. The architecture is stunning, and the historical monuments add so much character. While ongoing construction slightly obstructs the view, the rest of the castle is absolutely picturesque. The views of the city and the Danube River from the castle are breathtaking. The museum inside is large and offers a fascinating look into history. If you have the Budapest City Card, museum entry is free. I highly recommend visiting Buda Castle if you're exploring Budapest.

Worth a visit for sure. Pro tip - go during sunrise. Less tourist, more beauty.Need not go inside the castle. Even you can spend a morng glaring at the city. Club visit to the fisherman bastion which is located nearby.

Lovely place to explore and spend time looking at such grandeur structuresThe castle area is big and you need to navigate properly as there’s some area are closed off because of constructions. The view from the top overlooking Danube river and the Pest region is pretty on a clear day.

A most visit in Budapest. Amazing view of the town and nice buildings. Some of the buildings are original and other rebuilt after they were destroyed in the war. Some are still work in progress. You can walk around and enjoy the fountains, restaurants and galleries.

Roberto F — Google review

Great historical building, a must visit! The view from the castle is also beautiful. The museum's permanent exhibition is worth visiting if you like 19th century, impressionism and modern art. You approximately spent 1.5 hours looking at all the works. At the top floor, you can excess the dome and have a view around the castle. However, you cannot go outside, so it is not a panoramic view.

Mart W — Google review

Awesome area. Views would be spectacular if not for the rain. Restoration is taking place on a few buildings. A few have already been restored. Beautiful area.

Royal Castle on the hill with amazing view for all city. The palatial interior of the Hungarian National Gallery and exhibitions ranging from Gothic altars to sculptures.Around you have presidential palace, gardens and many places for walk.

Monika K — Google review

It is a very large historical building that is worth visiting and can impress everyone with its magnificence. Well, I traveled without listening to it warmly. Guess what we have here? Turks talking loudly 🤣 don't do this. People say “Turks are shouting let's move away”. So people are running away from where the Turks are, you understand? Why are you doing this, people? I invite you to a little kindness. It would have been nice if I hadn't heard "this place should have been ours". The castle is beautiful, be sure to visit it. Aperol at the place in the castle is a wonderful day, worth having a drink from here 😊

Özgür K — Google review

Amazingly beautiful 🤩 to see. This place is just mind blowing, from one castle to another and they are just so stunning. To everyone traveling to Budapest o coming into Hungary, don’t leave without visiting the Buda castle because it’s a must visit place 🤩🤩

Paris D — Google review

It was built between 1247 and 1265 under King Béla IV of Hungary and sits on the southern tip of Castle Hill.It was declared in 1987 as part of the World Heritage Site. Now, known as the Royal Palace and home to 2 museums - the National Gallery and Budapest History Museum. It is really an impressive castle with massive reconstruction due to the wars.Too many tourists came here just to see the majestic castle.Admission to the castle is free, but for the museums you have to pay for it.

John T — Google review

It's a must see of course but the time we were there it had a lot of scaffolding and it was not much to see but still not regretting it. There is one thing we were quite annoyed by that every single additional thing you have to pay for-to visit the Matthias Church or just to walk up a few steps and have a bit more panoramic view as well as the tower before the royal castle had tickets to go up etc and that was not very pleasant as we already paid around €30 to get on the mini buses that drive around as it is nearly 5 km2 (1.8 sq mi). St Matthias church is something to remember though even only for its exterior. It's outstanding.

Krasimira V — Google review

Gorgeous modern castle with insane views. If you’re in Budapest, this is a must. There’s a funicular train if you don’t fancy the hike up the hill, there’s also a bus and tourist bus service. If you’re visiting the castle, walk down to Matthias church down the road.

OH MY LORD Take a day to visit this beautiful winter if the world. Architecture abound in this 100 plus year precinct. Unfortunately the 2nd works eat too it’s till, but after quite a few were demolished, the local government is spending millions of dollars rebuilding them piece by piece to exact specifications. I didn’t have time to take too many photos so apologies for having myself and my wife in the photos. Cheers big ears

Michael L — Google review

Despite the ongoing construction work, we were able to truly appreciate the authenticity of the place and the exceptional panorama of the city of Budapest and the Danube. The parts that are open to visitors aren't as extensive as we'd have liked, which was a pity...The whole thing is much more enjoyable at night!

Die Burg ist sehr faszinierend und die Anlage sehr weitläufig. Überall gibt es etwas zu entdecken. Am besten fährt man mit dem Aufzug oder der Rolltreppe vom Burg Basar aus zur Burg hoch. Oben angekommen, hat man eine tolle Aussicht.(Translated by Google)The castle is very fascinating and the complex is very spacious. There is something to discover everywhere. Várhegy, also known as Castle Hill, is a must-visit destination in Budapest. It offers fantastic views of the entire city and its surroundings. The area has undergone renovations, making it even more beautiful to explore during the day or evening when the buildings are illuminated. The gardens on Castle Hill are stunning and add to the overall charm of the place. The splendid architecture further enhances the beauty of this location.

Sights & Landmarks

The Fisherman's Bastion is a beautiful fortress with lookout towers that offers panoramic views of the city. It was built in Roman style in 1895 and was damaged during World War II, but has since been restored.

This place was stunning! If you are a fan of architecture or Harry Potter this was something magical! If visiting in the winter like we did i would suggest you wear proper shoes as we wore trainers and was icy on some parts! Also it is very worth waking up early to visit this place with less tourists about.

Christiana N — Google review

It's like a dream😴💭. Amazing beauty. The best place after Hungarian Parliament is the Fisherman's Bastion. Free. No charges. You can have a great view of Danube & Budapest. Great place to click photos not only of views but also of yours. Loved. Nearby good eating joints. Spend at least half day here.

Sonia — Google review

This is a really pretty place to visit, it does feel a little like a fairytale as there's quite a number of spires. You can visit the church as well as the bastion itself. There are some great views of the city from here and is quite a romantic setting (if it's quiet). Nonetheless, its picturesque views offer great photo opportunities and is not one to miss if you like that.

Leslie P — Google review

A very nice place to visit for free. You can take very nice pictures there. There are some shops and coffee places, but they are always full. The best part is Matthias Church with its beautiful roof (this can be accessed by payment only). There are plenty of places to sit, and there are some toilets but you need to pay for them.

Aleksandra B — Google review

The architecture of this landmark is truly stunning. It takes you back to the monarchic times. It provides probably one of the best views of the city. If you want to avoid the crowd, go there early (before 10 AM), otherwise, you might need to wait for a good photo spot. But the best lights are around sunset (and obviously the place is packed at that time)

?d?m V — Google review

Awesome place in Budapest. We went here during sunrise and you can see beautiful sunrise here. There will be less crowd in the early morning. Place is open all the times. Its nice architecture. Place is very near to Mattias church and very relaxing and peaceful

My new favourite place in Budapest. We visited 3 times on a 4 day trip! Not only is the architecture beautiful, but you get incredible views of the city. Absolutely breathtaking and worth the visit!Tip: Visit early morning or evening to avoid the crowds.Tip #2: You need to buy a ticket to go up to the top sections in the day, but in the evening, they're free!

Definitely the most Instagrammable spot in Budapest, it's always a nice place for a picture. But be warned, it's full of people trying to have their picture taken. Better to go early in morning or late at night. Free to visit of course. Souvenir shop and coffee place on site. Highly recommend.

Amazing place, beautiful architecture. Fisherman's Bastion you can visit all for free. No charges. A great view of river Danube and Budapest is given from here. Nearby are good eating joints, places for coffee, you can spend whole day here. You will enjoy in every corner of this beautiful Bastion.Prepare your phones and cameras!

Absolutely stunning location, the highlight of our visit to Budapest. Most of the site is free, but for a small fee you can walk along the ramparts and take pictures away from the bulk of the crowds, which I would definitely recommend. The view is also lovely but the architecture is truly spectacular and it was hard to tear myself away from it!

Free to enter, only few places in tower for fee. Very nice to chill out, an good view from the top. But better to get there in early morning or in the evening special in summer. It wad hot and not comfortable.

Beautiful architecture and high vantage points for some of the best panoramic views of Budapest and the Danube river. Entry is free but fairly crowded depending on when you go - best views would be during sunrise (with the fewest tourists) or sunset. The Fisherman’s Bastion is one of the must-see sights when in Budapest so I would highly recommend it.

Such a beautiful place with a lovely lookout over this city and clearly the best picture spot in town as there were so many people there taking photos. But the whole place reminded me of Hogwarts. I just loved being there. Get a coffee or a chimney cake and just enjoy it.

This place is really lovely, the architecture is great. It has a great view of the pest side. Lots of people during the day but if you go there earlier, it’s really a different vibe and feel. You can appreciate the place more. There’s also a fee if you want to reach the highest wall in Fisherman’s Bastion. Tickets can be bought online or on site.

Certainly quite a trek to get to but the views from when you’re up here made it 100% worth it, and the architecture in the area is absolutely magnificent as well.Easily the highlight of my time in Budapest, if you’re in this city make sure not to miss out on this!

Not to miss: this the place, which you do not want to miss when visiting Budapest...it's very high on the hill with lots of stairs, if you search on Google maps it's recommends you to take stairs, and not many people are aware but a bus goes up to the Bastion...and it drops you right at the spot..no need to take single stairs. It's such a beautiful place with a mesmerizing view over the City Budapest...I would highly recommend to go there...it's an experience to be there...:)

If you can visit in the late afternoon and stay until the early evening, you can get a nice view from here at sunset. I opted to walk up from the Chain Bridge because the weather was nice and I wanted to see all of the autumn colors as I hiked up to Castle Hill.

Jacqueline S — Google review

The castle and fisherman’s bastion is right beside one another - It’s a visitors main attraction spot, but I most say extremely hassle free. I’ve travelled a lot, and most tourist attractions have creepy men trying to sell you items, or stick tacky bracelets on your arm then ask for money. Here none of that happens at all. You can walk around freely which is nice. Which should be the Norm to do anyways - but I found it good. Not too overwhelming (again this might depend on the time you go). February not that busy, and in the evenings very quiet. My apartment was close by, the views are spectacular. The downside you’ll see just LOADS AND LOADS of phones all over the place, in your face, in your space 😂 when are we ever gonna live in the moment 🤷‍♀️ you can see Budapest city from here. Look it’s definitely nice to see, to get into this little castle you’ve to pay a fee but you’re basically paying to see all these “travel bloggers and insta” people taken up the entire balconies 🫡

Very pretty. Shops locally and very expensive chimney pastry stalls €10 for one 😳). Can use scooters up here but check parking as we had to walk all the way back down to find parking or lose minutes. Restaurants up top. Areas to visit have to pay for them all about €3. Great views of the city.

L R — Google review

This place is super lovely for taking epic shots. It's reallly crowded in the afternoons and especially during weekend, since it's the best hours for taking pictures.Plenty of space, there are cute shops selling local products, and a shuttle service since the roads are quite steep and winding to reach the cathedral and the top of the bastion.

Kartika C — Google review

A nice place offering a good view over the city! A bit overhyped on social media but definitely worthy of visiting. Can be crowded as it is a very touristy place but the exteriors of the church and the other architecture is pretty

Rucha P — Google review

We visited during the day, dusk, and night, and each time was amazing. There’s something truly special about this place; it feels very magical. The views are stunning too.My favorite time was 7 pm, just as the sun was setting (in April), as there weren’t many people around, and it was beautiful. It’s lovely during the day as well, but it can get crowded, so if you prefer fewer people, evening and nighttime are better. It’s really worth seeing at different times of the day as it makes Budapest look even prettier.

Paul F — Google review

Nice place w great view of Budapest. You have to buy a tickets to get there, but you don't wait a long time. You can take a nice pictures w view of Pest.

Karol K — Google review

Great visit here, atmosphere was fabulous and the views of the city and river were excellent. We took the electric buggy taxi up, a fun way to arrive.Food and drink available, make sure you have change for the toilet!.

Neil L — Google review

Beautiful place with great view. The ticket was cheap but I’m not sure if it was worth it because it was just a very short stretch and you could have had the same view if you didn’t enter either.I’d recommend first exploring the area and check out the start and end location and then decide if you want to go up or not.

Ghazal — Google review

A picturesque place that worth every effort of climbing up the stairs. We took the stairs up but you could take a bus as well. We have a nice afternoon tea at the cafe to admire the scenery.

Achel T — Google review

The entire area is fascinating. All structures are very beautiful and picturesque. At the viewing point, you can see all the beautiful sites in Budapest like Chain Bridge, Castle, Parliament building and etc.Bus 216 send you directly under staircase toward fisherman bastion

Joo G — Google review

Very impressive place with a wonderful view over Budapest. You can pay for a VERY SHORT walk along the ramparts, whre you’ll have the best views. Don’t expect a major tour.

Nicolas L — Google review

Beautiful view, cool area, buying a ticket to go up slightly higher and get basically the same view felt a little silly. Definitely check it out but the ticket doesn’t actually get you that much

Jared K — Google review

Absolutely breathtaking place. Stunning views to the city and river. Be aware that the place itself and the Cafe that you can find nearby are pretty crowded.

Anna S — Google review

Beautiful panoramic viewing terrace with fairy tale towers in Budapest. Incredible points of view that will inspire a creative photographic eye to take & make photo masterpieces. Take an opportunity to play with marvelous sights and inspire others with your photos.Starbucks is located at the top, where you can refresh and sharpen your mind.Don’t miss the opportunity to visit all connected architectures in this area. Gothic style Matthias Church is one of them.

Dejan B — Google review

This is probably the nicest place for breath taking picture of Budapest. The view of the city from here is absolutely stunning, and the location itself is beautiful. If you have to choose one spot for photos, this is definitely the place to go. You can also visit the church, but you'll need to get tickets for that.

Ghislain P — Google review

I have been to Fisherman’s Bastion in Budapest. It is an amazing tourist attraction with a beautiful viewpoint where you can see picturesque and panoramic city views. If you go there before 9 am or after 9 pm, you can access all the spots for free. Highly recommended to visit if you’re exploring Budapest.

Rakesh J — Google review

This is very popular place in city and one can get a good panoramic view of pest side. This place has a small park, where you can just sit and relax.Opt to come bit early in time while the day starts (before 9AM) to beat the crowd and get good photograph for memories.

Sougata M — Google review

Beautiful architecture, it is honestly impressive even more so during a sunny day! Reaching the bastion is quite easy by foot. However, as it stands on a hill, it can be quite steep at times (there are a lot of stairs, too!). It does have good bus connections (bus no.16 takes you straight to the main square).I would recommend going to the bastion not only for the amazing view of Budapest but also for the tour of the underground caves as it's really interesting!

Perla B — Google review

It’s definitely a must see location in Budapest. You get a great view of Danube River, chain bridge and the parliament building on the background of your photos. At some locations, you need to pay but there are many other ways to enjoy it out there with free entry mostly.

Illy — Google review

We just vibe outside but in past I bought ticket to enter up. In my opinion it is good to vibe outside as well just crowds are insane but still this is one of the best spots to see panorama view of Pest side.

Church

Sights & Landmarks

The Matthias Church is a medieval church located in the Fishermens Bastion district of Budapest. The church has undergone several rebuilds and renovations, most notably between 1874 and 1896 when it was rebuilt in neo-Gothic style by Frigyes Schulek. The church features brightly coloured tiles on its roof, intricate painted interiors, and architectural splendor.

An amazing place, and an even better view from the top of the tower! Entrance tickets are purchased at the box office across from the church, there are several tours a day. There are 197 steps to the top and you go with a guide who speaks in English and the local language. Also, there are many seating areas around the church where you can enjoy the beautiful view. Don't miss out if you're in Budapest!

Andrijana S — Google review

A truly unique church in Europe. Not too grand, but also not small. The church is beautifully decorated with patterns usually not seen in other churches. Very hard to believe that this was once a mosque. Exterior tower is nice. Went for a High Mass service to get the full effect of the worship space - truly stunning. As a tech geek, I was impressed to see a transparent screen used to display the words to the hymns, readings, and sermons. Don’t forget to visit the side chapels.Great surroundings as well, a must for tourists.

Liam A — Google review

Magnificent church. Very beautiful and impressive. lots of beautiful and breathtaking details. I loved every single corner of it. inside the church you can see some valuable objects too. The paintings and ceiling craftsmanship were amazing.

Noushin J — Google review

Tickets for entry are across the plaza, with an optional extra ticket for going up the tower (around 300 steps).Architecturally aesthetic church that’s worth a visit if you’re religious or just want a quick sightsee. It takes about 30 minutes to see everything inside and while the displays show more about the history of the church, it’s all pretty similar to other touristy churches, so it can be boring for some.

Paulius J — Google review

Wow, what an amazing church and in a beautiful area too . I came to Budapest specifically to visit St Stephens Basilica and left totally confused .There are so many lovely churches here, and this one is right up there .The beautiful roof reminded me of St Stephens Cathedral in Vienna and inside just got even more beautiful .It may be me being not very travelled and a bit thick but this must be a one off . It is stunning and I left awestruck .I was lucky enough to be treated to a very talented young man playing a beautiful piece on the organ . He was great a real star in my opinion .Personally I loved the pulpit and a sort of telescopic Lamb of God window it was great .

Heimdal O — Google review

Good conservation of religious & history. High on the hill with natural protection. Consider to take enough rests at intervals when you walk up. Very good views of the river, bridges & houses along river bank. Windy & cool. Good for classic romantic wedding photos.

J C — Google review

The most beautiful church in Hungary, they say. And one of the most beautiful I've ever visited, and trust me I've seen a few and the best around Europe! Easily beats some very heavy names out there! Very warmly decorated, really good vibes, the balconies and the upper level tour a super plus! Stunning to say the least.

Shoe P — Google review

Wonderful architecture, the top tiles are colorful are unique for that place. The inside acoustic is awesome, the person in charge of the piano played a piece in the organ, it literally blew our mind. The museum, collection of seals, artifacts, treasures are interesting.

Samkhya G — Google review

Spectacularly well maintained church. If you’re lucky, there will be live music when you are visiting and you get to enjoy the amazing acoustics of the building. This is in a very well visited part of budapest so if you want to get a private moment alone, you will want to come early before the crowds show up. Afternoons are not recommended for this reason.Set aside an hour so you can do justice to this church.

Venu J — Google review

The church is a work of art! Exquisite architecture, amazing details! Makes you wonder why our civilisation regressed.. Go there and see the beauty of it! It's one of the best in the world without a doubt! Tip: Go see it by night, less crowded, and beautifully lit

Daniel G — Google review

Beautiful church in the Buda side of Budapest with an impressive Multi-Religion history spanning several centuries. I recommend buying the tickets online and also check the daily opening hours on their website to plan your visit since their hours might change due to events (e.g. weddings) or other religious activities.

Tomás F — Google review

A great part of Hungary, was very peaceful and quiet here. You can pay a small price to go in to the church and have a look around which I would recommend due to the beautiful architecture. You can pay a small price and climb the tower which I would recommend, you may struggle this if you are older and scared of heights. I think it is 197 steps tall with fantastic views all over Budapest.

Conor — Google review

Amazing church built in Gothic fashion. It is more beautiful from the inside, and has very unique architecture and design. The small fee you pay to visit the inside is worth the experience. There are several info placards inside that guide and inform you about the history of the church. Museum is accessible up the stairs and included in the ticket. Visit inside the church is a must.

Sushruta D — Google review

The ins and out of this magnificent gothic style church are forth visiting and paying the entrance ticket for. We arrived right before it opened and were able to take photos without the crowds. They offer guided tours in English with an actual guide or you can follow on your phone via an app. Inside you can go to the tower, up around 100 steps. You can also observe some royal pieces.

Nathalie R — Google review

One of the most beautiful and unique church architectures I've ever seen, from outside and inside. You need to buy a ticket to go inside, but it is totally worth it. In front of the church there is the fisherman's bastion, creating a nice and beautiful atmosphere. Totally recommended to visit!

Sahar P — Google review

Stained glass windows and the airy heights of a church? Let there be light and good golly what a sight.Though its small and quaint, it has many artifacts and a wholesome ambience. Attendants were very nice and helpful.72 day card only offers free access

Mer-Ria — Google review

Beautiful church set in the fisherman's bastion area over looking the river Danube. You can buy tickets from the kiosk across from the church less than a minute's walk. There is a dress code, so make sure you look at the signs to make sure you are dressed properly.

Derek B — Google review

A beautiful church on a hill with adorable surrounding streets. The church has a wonderful architecture and looks like something from a fairy tale. Around the church is a beautiful square, a park and the rest of the fortress, which is very photogenic.

Matthias Church in Budapest is a true masterpiece of Gothic architecture. Its awe-inspiring facade, adorned with intricate details, captivates from afar. Once inside, the interior's grandeur and historic significance unfold. The vibrant stained glass windows and ornate decorations transport visitors to another era. Ascending the tower rewards with panoramic views of the city. The church's role in Hungarian history adds depth to the visit. While its exterior is a marvel, the interior's spiritual ambiance and historical resonance make Matthias Church a must-see, embodying Budapest's cultural and architectural splendor.

Abhishek K — Google review

Probably one of the most beautiful church interiors I have ever seen. ☺️ Warm colors, dominated by gold. A large number of paintings and decorations, beautiful stained glass windows. There is a museum inside, it is worth seeing.

Magdalena K — Google review

We have been here in January 2024. It’s so sensational! The Matthias Church is located on Trinity Square in the Castle District on the Buda side of the city in the Fishermen's Bastion section. The Matthias Church - officially the Church of Our Lady (Nagyboldogasszony-templom) - was the first church on the Schlossberg. It is also registered as part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site. I can highly recommend a tour here!

Alper K — Google review

The Church of the Assumption of he Buda Castle, more commonly known as the Matthias Church is a Roman Catholic church located in the Holy Trinity Square in front of the Fisherman's Bastion. It is a historic building with an important history. Two ruling parties were crowned within its walls. The church was also the location of the "Mary wonder". In 1686 during the siege of Buda city by Muslims, a wall of the church collapsed due to cannon fire. It turned out that an old votive Madonna statue was hidden behind the wall. As the sculpture of the Virgin Mary appeared before the praying Muslims, the morale of the Muslim forces collapsed and the city fell on the same day. It was severely damaged during second world war. It was restored to its present glory by Hungarian State from 1950 to 1970. It is a beautiful serene church with amazing architecture. It is on a hill. One can go by funicular. Worth seeing !!

Balkrishna S — Google review

We went when it was raining which made the tile roof look especially attractive. The outside of the church is right next to Fisherman’s Bastion. The inside has a lot to offer. Multiple levels, amazing stained glass and relics from the church’s past. It also has a great gift shop that sells umbrellas so being as we didn’t have any it was a little miracle they did!

Seeing Matthias Church for the first time, I was immediately struck by its pristine white exterior and the stunningly ornate roof. The architecture of this church is both unique and exquisite, with its snow-white walls and colorful tiled roof forming beautiful patterns. The church has a long history and has witnessed many significant historical events and figures.Stepping inside, the interior is just as awe-inspiring. The lavish yet dignified decorations and the stained glass windows that radiate vibrant colors when the sunlight filters through are simply breathtaking. The interior style combines Gothic and Neo-Gothic elements, with high vaulted ceilings that add to the sacred and serene atmosphere. The walls are adorned with intricate murals and carvings, showcasing exquisite craftsmanship and design. The main altar is the most ornate part of the interior, with detailed carvings depicting biblical stories, highlighting its artistic value.Additionally, the church houses many valuable historical artifacts, including ancient relics and religious paintings. The church's pipe organ has a beautiful tone, and during religious holidays and important ceremonies, solemn masses and concerts are held here. Overall, Matthias Church is not only a religious building but also a treasure trove of art and history, making it a must-visit attraction in Budapest.

Very colourful and pretty chuch in the castle complex up on the hill worth seeing. Located up Also known as the coronation church, 2 kings have been crowned there. Very closely located to the Fishermans Bastion. This church has reseliently withstood many wars and many important events have orrcured around it and within its walls. The museum contains replicas of the Hungarian royal crowm and coronation jewels. The fee is very affordable.

Such a beautiful church. Well worth the entry price that you need to pay at the ticket booth outside. Both the interior and exterior are truly special. Make sure to get there well before 5pm as this is when it closes.

Definitely worth a visit, if you pop up in Buda castle district. It is a very big and peculiar church, with beautiful decorations. You can also take the stairs and take a look of the main hall from upstair. Nice marble statue of Princess Sissi. Price 8€

Bea R — Google review

Background:It was built in 1015, original name was The Church of Mary/The Church of Our Lady, destroyed/reconstructed many times and two kings of Hungary were crowned here.I can review only the exterior of the church, since my 48hrs. Budapest Card is not acceptable for the moment.A lot of tourists like me queueing the line just to get inside. Some of them, just want to see the church especially the colored tile roof. The updated church is styled and restored in Neo-Gothic.Recommendable to visit this place and if you have an extra pocket, better to see inside the church.

John T — Google review

An absolutely beautiful church completely of the gothic/romanesque style. Although there are plenty of spaces for prayer it gets awfully busy in the summer - people darting around in all directions. There is a small museum on the first floor of the church which is certainly worth a visit. Perhaps helpful to note that women need to wear something covering their shoulders to enter though or else they give you a piece of thin paper-cloth to wrap around your shoulders

Caius H — Google review

Wow, this church made a great impression on me, beautiful architecture from the outside, and incredibly finished from the inside. The ticket price is 2,500 HUF. Without a doubt, one of the most beautiful churches I have ever seen.

Michał K — Google review

Our visit to Matthias Church in Buda was truly captivating. The church's stunning architecture, adorned with beautiful colors, seamlessly weaves together the history of the church and Budapest, creating a rich narrative.Ascending the tower was a highlight, offering breathtaking panoramic views of Budapest. While the view was amazing, it's worth noting that there's no elevator, requiring visitors to ascend by stairs. The effort is rewarded with an unparalleled perspective of the city.Exploring the intricate designs and colors of the church's roof added another layer of appreciation. Matthias Church is undoubtedly a must-visit in the Castle District and Buda, providing a memorable blend of history, art, and panoramic beauty.

It is easy to reach the temple with bus and it absolutely worth to see .The church takes you to different era makes you feel like you are in the Medieval ages the architecture the paintings . A trully fascinating spectacle which words cant describe. The ticket to enter is about 15€ for adults although it is open until seven o'clock. There are several subsection to explore and read about the history and the role it served shaping the history of the Hungarian nation. It is easily in top 5 places to visit in Budapest !

Will give place a 4.5.One of the most popular places in Budapest. Go early as it gets crowded with bus loads of visitors by 10am.Photo opportunities are aplenty outside but wait till you walk through the entrance. The interior is magnificent. One of the most well decorated we have ever visited. The tour inside is also well routed and planned by the management. 👏. There was only a small crowd inside and our cameras never stopped snapping. 😂The relics and displays were awesome and colourful.Entrance to Matthias is 2900 HUF/adult. Super reasonable and really worth the effort. To get here, there’s a steep climb up some well paved walkway. For those who are physically challenged, there is a bus to go up. Right to the door steps, literally.Don’t miss this place if you are in Budapest.

Remains of a centuries-old stone fortress atop a volcanic hill, with valley & mountain views.

I loved it, it is abandoned but this way you can see the real nature, observe the animals like butterflies and lizards. They even have a group of beautiful goats. The view is mesmerizing from the top. I really recommend it

What a great place! Not so far from Budapest, but far enough to feel like you got out of the city. There’s a little parking area. The walk up to the castle is not so far, but far enough. You won’t be taking an hour+ hike if that’s what you’re looking for. Great place to take younger kids. There aren’t any bathroom facilities, but you also don’t have to pay admission or anything. There are a few benches to sit on. Great place for picnics in the spring and summer.

Visegrad Bobsled, also known as Visegradi Bobpalya, offers an exciting bobsledding and alpine coaster experience at Visegrad Toboggan Park. The venue provides a great family-friendly activity with the option to visit the nearby castle, go zip lining, or explore the adventure park. It's fun, it's safe, totally worth the visit and at least one slide or more! 900 HUF per a single adult. If you arrived to Visegrád after a rainy day, you can still walk there along the main road in 50-60 minutes. The busses were not in service up hill in winter 2023.

Quite spoken of but just too short to really call it something absolutely must do. If you do make it to the castle then the sled is a 15 min walk away. But it just ends so quickly that you barely realise what happened. Good for a one time try.

A long drive but very fun. Not for older people. Quite affordable places to sit and see beautiful view. Quite safe and very well. Run even with large crowds

Shneur G — Google review

Good alpine bobsleighing experience for the whole family with pricey memorabilia and equally pricey parking but we'll worth it lest you make a habit out of attending. There's a buffet if you're hungry and a decent enough lavatory. You pay for the whole day of parking and can strike out to visit the castle on the top of the hill on foot or go zip lining or attend the adventure park right next to this venue. Would recommend once every couple of years it's fun.

This is an amazing place with a beautiful park and interesting exhibitions. The agro museum with interactive activities is perfect for kids. The peaceful and charming park is an ideal weekend getaway. The staff in the museums is friendly and helpful. The only drawback that I can think of is that I did not know about this place before!

Karina M — Google review

Beautiful place with beautiful views especially when sunny. Not exceptionally big but if you walk slowly and enjoy, you can spend nearly a couple of hours. Or maybe stop to enjoy a picnic.

Lo P — Google review

Lovely, well - maintained park with museums. You can buy a ticket for the park only, or park + Beethoven exhibition, or park + agricultural exhibition, or all included. We decided to visit Beethoven rooms and the park. Small interactive museum. The park is very nice. You can walk around, sit on benches, explore rare tree species and enjoy crossing on bridges while having the castle view.We spent 3 hours here. We liked our visit.

Delightful well kept grounds, well worth a day trip from Budapest.

R?bert R — Google review

Loved the grounds and history. Rent a car and take a quick drive here, you won't regret it. Plenty of locall shops and restaurants within walking distance to make it a fun day out. Wear comfy shoes and make sure you hit the grounds and the castle.

Claudia C — Google review

If you love history and like to see old house or (castle) of famous historical person then this place is for you. You can see history here. How they used to live. The area is really huge as it used to own by famous artist around 200 years ago. This place has huge potential but it’s quite expensive to visit museum because there is nothing so special. Place is small and nothing there looks historical except some furnitures and books. I hope they will expand the museum with more things and open many area of that historical building which can’t be access now.

We went to a Beethoven concert held in the park of Brunszvik Castle. Ticket prices are reasonable. The location, outside in a forest, stunning and the quality of musicians outstanding. We caught a train from Budapest's Déli Pályaudvar station to Martonvásár. The castle is a very pleasant ten minute walk from the station. Once the concert finished we had plenty of time to get back to the station and catch our train back to Budapest.

AussieIslander — Google review

You pay 2500ft just to see a small gallery and you can’t get into the castleBut the garden is nice

Shira C — Google review

Park is absolutely gorgeous, Castle also one of a kind. But food service at the restaurant (not the coffee shop) is late by 40 years.

Anett V — Google review

This place is magical indifferent of which season are you visiting it. You can easily find yourself lost in the huge park and your imagination which can take you back to the time of great balls of the aristocracy.Alongside the walking paths you can find informational boards about the history of the castle and also about the park's plants.Don't miss to visit the island in the heart of the lake and give an imaginary hug to the lion which keeps the castle safe.I would recommend to take a book with you or take a lovely person for a walk here.

Katinka Z — Google review

Wonderful park, nice environment, although the castle itself is less grandiose than the pictures suggest, but that is not necessarily a bad thing.

Visegrád Royal Palace, located above the charming old town of Visegrad in the Danube Bend, is a centuries-old Italianate structure with a Gothic cloister and Renaissance-style loggia. Originally built in the 14th century under King Charles, it was later reconstructed by King Matthias Corvinus with late Gothic and Renaissance elements.

What a pretty place! Beautiful rooms and gardens.

Elsie P — Google review

Great exhibit with free parking nearby. A glimpse into the world of the great Hungarian king, Matthias.

László V — Google review

Here was the first EU parliament held in Europe🤣🤣🤣🤣Back in 1335 kings from Hungary, Checz and Poland and many dukes like from Bavaria, Croatia, Teutonic order... gathered here and make arrangements for peace and trade in the area. Most important event of 14th century. The palace fell in decline after Turka defeated them in 16th century. They sure are making effort to restore it. U can see how palace was in three floors, royal chambers, kitchen, gardens. A lot od things are replica, like the fountains, but in the....dungeons there are originals....well what is left od them.In more recent history those three countries remade old friendships and there group in EU is called after this town, Visegrad.

Rok S — Google review

I was there during the local knight festival in July--lots of tiny little shops that sold pretty much every thing from knight gears to garden ceramic flowers and beer (loved the red beer). There were medieval exhibitions and performances on every corner of the castle and nearby it.

Thuggie D — Google review

Beautiful, sympathetic restoration/conservation of one of Hungary's most important historical buildings. Well worth a visit for around half a day. This appears to be ongoing work, so I will return perhaps next year to witness the progress. A fantastic place to visit with children.

John S — Google review

Nice little Village. Palace is not that interesting but the climb to the castle is super. Some pieces are pretty heavy but almost allways shadow on hot days. Very Nice view on the top.

Belley K — Google review

The Royal Palace in Visegrád is a unique place where you can get a glimpse of the mediaeval life of the Hungarian royalty, it is one of the earliest examples of the transition form late gothic to renessaince architecture. The palace is mostly in ruins but some of the parts are nicely renovated and furnished with authentic pieces of furniture.

Attila S — Google review

They put together a pretty good exhibition. Can recommend it. Plenty of indoor and outdoor places, nicely reconstructed buildings and interiors.

History Museums

The Museum of Matthias Rex, originally a royal palace, was constructed in the 13th century to accommodate Hungarian monarchs. Situated in Visegrad on the Danube's shore, this historical castle now serves as a museum. During a tour of the Danube bend, visitors can explore its premises and admire the captivating Hercules fountain. While most of the site has been reconstructed and only a few walls remain intact, there is no shortage of aesthetic appeal.

A hidden gem in Visegrád! The place was huge and really exciting to explore!

Zsófi V — Google review

The palace is at the bottom of the castle. The access is not expensive. There are several walls left standing, most of the place is actually reconstructed. Nothing interactive. Moderately interesting, worth a visit, but nothing not to be missed.

SVC — Google review

Lots and lots of information, some of the rooms are reconstructed in period setting, the grounds are nice and there is a bit to take in. Nice enough.

Jarrod H — Google review

Der Königspalast ist an und für sich schön hergerichtet. Die Renovierung allerdings ist nicht authentisch. Schöner Ausblick auf die Donau. Einen modernen App-Guide kann man sich runterladen, Netz dazu ist mäßig. Insgsamt aber interessant.(Translated by Google)The royal palace is beautifully decorated in and of itself. The renovation, however, is not authentic. Nice view of the Danube. You can download a modern app guide, but the internet is mediocre. But overall interesting.

Christian A — Google review

We visited this place on Sunday, May 29th. It was part of Danube bend tour from Budapest. It's a castle. Our tour guide explained the history of King Matthias. The Hercules fountain was really beautiful. My little kid really liked it. The premise where the fountain is located is very very nice. It's located in Visegrad on the bank of Danube.

Siddiqui A — Google review

Great palace!Lovely views and well done from a restoration point of view - enough to help our imagination but not too much so it appears like a medieval palace was built in the 21st century.Dissappointed that there was no Audio Guide available or maps/ locality guides with information about the various displays (despite Audio Guide signs all throughout the Palace).

Ingeborg R — Google review

free parking for visitors of museum ! :)

Małgorzata Ł — Google review

Plenty of space to roam. Lot of interesting small items hidden in the exhibition.

Bence A — Google review

Was a bit of an adventure to get there. Had to take the Underground train, then a bus, and finally walk from the street here. The history is amazing, was actually covered under a landfall for many years. RED MARBLE!!! During a weekday I had the entire experience and location to myself. Was worth the travel time to and from.

PaulSebastian — Google review

It was and is a difficult undertaking to reconstruct a building complex that had been severely damaged by wars, stone theft and erosion. Especially if, like this facility, it has various expansion stages and if there are no historical construction plans. Much of such reconstructions remain speculative, especially if one wants to go as far in the restoration as with the medieval palace complex at Visegrád. The makers have partly reconstructed with authentic material and partly with modern material in an attempt to make it clear where the scientific effort ends. The visitor should understand that they are within completely or partially reconstructed walls - it would have been fatal to let the already extensive reconstruction degenerate into a Disneyland in which history is falsified. It is also quite clear that in this type of restoration only one structural aspect can be singled out. And then you always choose the most elaborate and beautiful one. Of course, the developments over the centuries in a facility are not visible.

A nice game (Gokart) supposed to come with good customer service, too. But unfortunately the service I can't rate it more than one star. Basically it really disappointing... The quality of the kart seriously need to maintain in a good conditions. It was broken down after 2 rounds, no new Kart to replace and also no money refund!!! In addition, there is a risk of kart damage when customers racing it, how could they charge the customer for a minor damage on the Kart? What if the damage was Already there from previous player(s)??Conclusion: very disappointed by the way there operating the business and customers service. In such competitive world/market, the Owner you should look into the good customer service -- Word of mouth is very important!!!

(Translated by Google) We would have gone to the Anonym Pincé with high hopes, on the occasion of a bachelorette party. The panoramic, beautiful cellar was listed on the website and among the Google image search results, which would have served as the perfect location. However, in the 10 minutes before arrival - after we asked based on the address sent - exactly where this location was, it turned out that the winery had moved to a much more discreet location. Which basically wouldn't be a problem, if that's not what we're preparing for and the whole team counts. Not to mention that, after the "forgotten information" was revealed, they put us on the phone 10 minutes before arriving at the agreed time with the sentence "so I don't accept this". Unfortunately, this was far from professional. It is surprising that in 2023, when everything you can also communicate on the internet and social media, which Anonym Pince has not been able to do since the move in September (!).(Original)Nagy reményekkel mentünk volna az Anonym Pincébe, egy lánybúcsú apropóján.

Nice view of the surrounding vineyards and hills. There is a large selection of wines, and they are also delicious, befitting the place. I would like to single out their rosé, which completely convinced us, but of course you can't complain about the rest either. Polite service. It is relatively easy to reach.(Original)A hagyományos borpincéktől eltérő, igazi 21. századi környezetben található de mégis megőrizték itt ott a hagyományokat. This was one of our best experiences on a recent trip to Europe. Victoria took us on a tasting tour of the many types of chocolate and we had wines to pair with them. I recently visited this winery in Hungary, and my experience was a mix of excitement and disappointment.Upon arrival, I was very enthusiastic and eager to learn more about the wines. I asked the tasting room host two questions, but to my surprise, he snapped at me, asking me to stop asking questions and let him finish his work. This abrupt and unprofessional response was quite disappointing and put a damper on the visit for all of us at the table. On a positive note, the winery itself is quite nice. The ambiance and setting are beautiful, providing a pleasant atmosphere for wine tasting. The wines were decent, though not extraordinary.Overall, while the setting of is charming and the wine acceptable, the service left much to be desired. A more welcoming and courteous approach from the staff would greatly enhance the visitor experience.[For the business looking to improve it, I’m referring to the host woking on July 4th, 2024 at 3:30 PM]

(Translated by Google) I can say that I come here every year with catering classes, to learn about wine, the winery, the wine region, nature, and dedication. The cellar is the goals, the products (spirits, wine, champagne...), the venue, the terrace is a complex, structured conscious design.Great place, 5 stars!(Original)Mondhatni évente járok ide vendéglátós osztályokkal, művelődni borról, pincészetről a borvidékről, természetről, elhivatottságról beszélgetünk Lacival, diákként és oktatóként is élmény.A pince a célok a termékek (párlat, bor, pezsgő...) a rendezvenyhelyszin, a terasz egy komplex felépített tudatos tervezés.Szuper hely, 5 csillag!

(Translated by Google) We stopped by on a Saturday, completely by accident. They were basically closed, but they still welcomed us kindly. We were also able to take part in a champagne tasting and even see the cellar. It's amazing what they've created. Soon it will be possible to taste gin, as they already make it themselves. My girlfriend and I only refer to the family as polymaths. The view is beautiful, the champagnes are perfect. Thank you very much for the hospitality! We'll be back! (we will try during opening hours :) )(Original)Szombati napon, teljesen véletlenül tértünk be. Köszönjük szépen a vendéglátást! Még visszatérünk! (megpróbálunk nyitvatartási időben :) )

Aqua Island Esztergom is a spa and wellness facility that offers pampering services, pools, slides, and relaxation. While it can be slightly crowded due to tourists, it provides various pools including a main pool (34 C), hot pool (36 C), and outdoor pool (36-38 C). The canteen may be overpriced with greasy smells but the facility is well-maintained. It's suitable for a fun day out with family on a hot day.

This is the best Spa in Esztergom. The jakuzzi is big and very strong. On the top, there is a Spa. Every second hour you can have a sauna party with music.

Great place for swimming with kids, offering ample space for everyone. The swimming pools are clean and warm. During weekdays, it wasn't crowded. The two large slides were fun and not scary at all for my kids (ages 5 and 10). However, the outdoor slide and wave pool were closed on May 28, 2024."-" One challenge we faced was ordering food at the buffet. The staff doesn't speak English, and there is no English menu. It would be easier if they offered self-catering options or had English-speaking staff."-" Additionally minus, there are no saunas or steam rooms where you can be with kids.Ability of curtains in the shower rooms is plus. But In the WC and in the shower there were no soap.

Viktoriia M — Google review

Staff is very nice even on a busy day. It’s a small place but with plenty of things to do. Cleanness could improve, hence only the 4 starts, but will definitely come back. Btw, parking is paid even when you buy a ticket.

B J — Google review

In the sauna world, swimwear is not allowed, which is great. Sauna sheets are provided. Staff is really kind. Sauna sessions are also very good.

++ One of the most modern spa complexes in Hungary+ On the first floor there is a relaxation room (baby-mom room) and a playroom for the little ones+ The (sun)beds are available for free for the bathing guests both inside and outside. There are plenty of them, both inside and outside._- The lockers were quite run-down; there was no mandrel bar to hang your hanger on, no bottom shelf to put your shoes under.- Unfortunately, there was no lifeguard to supervise the relaxation pool, so there were lots of kids splashing around and making noise, so relaxing in the pool was impossible.- They tried to make the pools accessible, for example, the footwashers were not accessible by stairs, but there was hardly any water in them, so everyone was walking around the 'pool area' with dirty feet and slippers. As there are no footwashers at the entrance to the pools, the water in the pools was quite dirty. There are several bridges in the pool area, one side of which has steps, and they are too steep, making it difficult to cross with wet feet in slippers, and even more difficult or impossible for a person with a pushchair or wheelchair or cane.- There is no drinking fountain anywhere on the premises except in the wellness area- No centrifuge to spin out rinsed swimsuits after a swim- The head of the shower is very badly positioned, you have to stand by the curtain, which then sticks to your body. You have to keep pressing the button with one hand to get the water to come out. There are not enough hairdryers and mirrors, and some places don't even have mirrors near the hairdryer- Parking in front of the building is not for free!!!

Third time that I come here. Beautiful, big, clean and modern. It has a restaurant and a bar and water slides for the kids. Food is very good and very good portions and prices. Nice and calm for the whole family or couples. I would definitely go again.

Ilias V — Google review

Super outdoor and indor swimmingpools and great slides. My 6 years old was sliding with me on the outside big slides. Great fun!Wounderful place i only gave 3 stars because is SO slippery and my 10 years old fall big time and nobody come to see him if He is OK or not. Make sure you don't forget to take with you some sleepers!

Bernadett A — Google review

This aqua island is a well organized, modern looking complexum of several pools, bubble pools. Lot of experiences can be found there as wave pool, drifting, four kind of slippers, thermal pool, pool for babies with toys etcIndoor and open air pools connects to each others. The sun loungers, chairs are available for free, it's a big adventage. The lockers and toilets quite tidy, there's good system for the safe. You can request chip watch locking your cupboard (deposit required - 1000 HUF)Disadvantages: the floors are very slippery everywhere, non-slip carpet is missing so this way potential danger for injury. The open air buffet is overpriced, but the indoor "self-services" restaurant offers a good meal in good portion and price.Summarized: I was satisfied with my family to be here! Thanks for all!

Ferenc L — Google review

Really nice place, I often go here with my family. It's a must to visit when coming to Hungary.

Zsófia N — Google review

Busy in summer, great to go the rest of the time as it's quiet and you can enjoy everything. 2 things are very wrong tho, the floor is stupidity slídy (so many kids are falling hitting their head) and very bad shower

Zaba M — Google review

Very nice people. The technical manager bought us the entry tickets after he realised that police fined us when driving to the parking lot. The while place is relaxed, the right size, very nice.

Balazs S — Google review

We can say that the facility is good enough. It is recognisable that some items are old but I think they are maintained. There are two opportunities to eat something they offer basic/street food, the foods are not cheap. All in all, in a hot day you can spend there a couple of funny hours with your family.

József V — Google review

Very nice place to relax& chill fair price for tickets not so much tourists

Alice T — Google review

Slightly over crowded for such a low populated city, possibly due to tourists. If you are only visiting Esztergom for thermal pools, much better alternatives available all over Hungary. Three pools are open in November, main pool (34 C), hot pool (36 C), outdoor pool (36-38 C). Overpriced canteen is the source of all day greasy smell in the facility. Overall could be a good stopover facility, but definitely should not be in the centre of your holiday plans.

Cathedral

Sights & Landmarks

The Basilica of Esztergom is a grand neoclassical church built between 1822 and 1856, situated on Castle Hill in Hungary. It is the largest church in Hungary, with an ornate interior, towering central dome that can be seen from afar, and a crypt. Jozsef Hild contributed to the final stages of its design. The original 12th-century church was destroyed by the Turks.

It is simply HUGE. Must visit from Budapest. It’s super close and the view from there it’s very nice. Also cross the border to Slovakia 🇸🇰 it’s recommended. There’s a small art exhibition at the entrance which was, surprisingly, good. All in all a great day trip

If you're looking for a really cool place to visit, you should check out the Basilica of Esztergom. It's a big, beautiful church that's super old and has lots of interesting things to see.One of the best parts is the really tall tower you can climb to get a great view of the whole city. It's a little bit of a hike, but totally worth it for the awesome views. And don't forget to look up at the ceiling inside the church – there are some really cool paintings and decorations up there. There are also lots of statues and artwork around the cathedral that are really fun to look at. My favorite was a big, shiny crown that's hanging in one of the rooms. It's super fancy and sparkly, and it was used by lots of important people a long time ago.Overall, the cathedral of Esztergom is a really neat place to visit. I bet you'll have a great time exploring all the different parts of it. Just make sure to be respectful and quiet while you're inside the church part. Happy exploring!

Kutay ? — Google review

It's a relatively newly constructed Basilica. Beautiful. The treasury collection is impressive and so is the crypt. There is a ticket to visit the crypt and the treasury. The Basilica is connected by a bus from Esztergom station. You can spend 2-3 hours here.

Vishesh S — Google review

Impressive Basilica! With a nice view over the city and the Danube. Here the first Hungarian king got his Corona as well

ANDREAS S — Google review

TBF when I visited, there was a renovation going on so I'm not so sure I'll be able to rate it with %100 clarity. The basilica itself was great and it's so cool to see that nearly every part of the building is still standing. The remnants inside and the treasury were great. I'm not that into body parts being kept for viewers though. Still, it was pleasant. Suggest you visit it. And while you're there, drink a tea in Slovakia.

Salih A — Google review

While the renovation makes it difficult to see the Basilica in its full glory, it is still an amazing sight to visit during a day out in Esztergom! The church interior is amazing and we were still able to appreciate it despite the work and drilling in the background…The basilica also offers a tour of its dome. It is a place full of history and is the biggest church in Hungary.

Becky M — Google review

saw it several times from distance when passing by in the car. anyhow this time we decided to visit it and we were impressed how big the cathedral actually is 😮. at the top of the dome there is a nice cafe with beautiful view and at the "opposite side" another surprise for me - catacombs.even though i was expecting to pay an entrance fee, it was for free (beside the treasury)

Pasta G — Google review

Magnificent and holy. Although currently under renovation, which means the central dome cannot be seen in all glory, it is still outstanding and enormous. Blessed are those who have not seen, and believe.

Simran B — Google review

Beautiful basilica, absolutely huge, dominating the skyline. It's best seen from across the river on the Slovak side or directly in front to see its true size. Can walk around the exterior for views of the river and Slovak countryside. Highly recommend.

Paul H — Google review

Nice basilica, unfurtunatelly currently under reconstruction. The entry is free, you have to pay for the treasury and/or crypt only. However, the treasury is must see if you like treasures 😀 Parking is free below the basilica on the right.

Petr W — Google review

Even with the construction site it is impressive. To see how they rebuild it is actually a nice extra. To climb the stairs to the cupola is fun. Start from the Alley of Cats!Well organized and clean. It would be even better if there were no cars and parking directly in the front, cars just make the scenery ugly.Prepare yourself with some history of Esztergom before visiting.

Robert G — Google review

A nice church that is really big. The Treasury is filled with beautiful relics and robes and the basement is nice and cool. If you go up the stairs you can look over the city. They are currently renovating almost everywhere so there was only one side to take pictures of and things were missing.

Lieve H — Google review

A beautiful basilica with lot of history. Situated at denube which give a beautiful view for Slovakia. Entry is free, you go inside click photo, pray and sit. Dorm is chargeable for 360 view. But you can see something from backside of basilica.

Manmeet K — Google review

Visited on Sunday morning. The Basilica, built in 997 is the largest catholic church in Hungary! Walked inside it was free. Amazing view at the top of the hill, overlooking the Danube River and Slovakia. Worth the visit and the view.

Globetrekker S — Google review

This Basilica is breathtaking. We entered the church and was able to walk around the main part of it. The are smaller chapels off to the side including a section that was part of the original church covered in red marble. There are many sections that are under construction, so your experiences may be different depending on the day.We walked through the gift shop and visited the top floor where there was a cafe and a large window which gives you a panoramic view of the Danube and Slovakia across the bridge. We then head to the crypts which holds the tombs of many former leaders of the church. Lastly we walked grounds behind the church to again bask in the beautiful views. There are paid activities on site which we did not partake in. These include a visit to the Treasury and a Dome terrace tour.I would highly recommend stopping at the Basilica if.you are able. The history, relics and views are well with the visit.

Orielle M — Google review

Once upon a time it was one of the highest churches in Europe.Inside there is the second biggest wall painting in Europe.Magnificent back view.

Stavros R — Google review

It`s a must to visit if you have the chance. Second largest building in the country and very important one. Unfortunatly it is under renovation which will take up to a few more years so inside is a big of chaos, the statues are removed, a great part ofthe pavement is picked up, there are just a few benches for the ones who attend the mass. The 80 m high tower however is worth visiting, there are guided turns every hour, must climb more than 400 steps but the view compensates all.

Vassy T — Google review

Very nice place, with a beautiful building of Basilica. So big, and very clean ! You must visit

Alen F — Google review

If you are in Budapest for a city trip take the time to travel to esztergom. Very impressive church and absolutely worth to visit. You have a great view from there to the river danube and to slovakia.

Frank — Google review

Absolutely stunning basilica overlooking the Danube river in this otherwise unremarkable small town. The interiors are truly amazing. Adjacent to the castle complex which I didn't have time to visit but also looked good.

John K — Google review

The Basica is a monumental icon in Esztergom. We planned a day out but there is no information about the scaffolding i side and outside of the building. Visitors can not enjoy their tour because inside as well reatauration going onwith lots of noise. If some wants to pray this is not the place at the moment.

GreyPug — Google review

Very big and impressive cathedral, unfortunately there were restoration work and we couldn't visit the whole area.

Bea R — Google review

Must place to visit if you're in Budapest or you visit as a tourist . This is the oldest church and is situated in Esztergom where you can take a local train from Budapest. You can take a peaceful walk before the Church premises and we need a ticket to have a look from top view. We can see the Slovakian bridge from the backside of the monument. Treasure kept inside is worth watching and the relics of kings are kept safe.

Hanuma R — Google review

Worth visiting, you don't need a ticket to enter only for the viewing point up high in the tower. Beautiful images, huge from the inside, a popular spot for weddings, you may be lucky to witness one while visiting.

Suza — Google review

The basilica itself is impressive, you can see it from various points in the city.It is being remodeled, however it can still be appreciated and visited.I love the view you have of the river and Štúrovo Slovakia

Anyelix G — Google review

Fascinating and amazing. We had an excellent and interesting guide in Julia (SP)

Mike E — Google review

Absolutely amazing experience, georgeous and huge building inside and outside! Must be visited once! Outside is a lovely walking space with a view point as well.

Zs B — Google review

A great day out with family. The weather was perfect for a walk around the top of the dome. 400 steps up inside the Basilica and then a walkway around the outside, not for the faint hearted. I'm glad we went. The views were spectacular. It's worth visiting even if you don't want to go to the top. The treasury and crypt are well worth visiting.

Andrew O — Google review

We're not religious, but this place has definitely a warm, spiritual atmosphere.Free entry to the main church, guided tours, rooftop entry available.Plenty of parking in front of the church.

Bobby A — Google review

The church was under renovation. One has to find the entrance & side exit. Fewer tourists were found as it was surrounded by construction material, signs & fences.
