Microsoft randomly sending out free Xbox gift card codes during Spring Sale 2025 (2025)

The Xbox Spring Sale 2025 is ongoing with steep discounts on over 1000 games. Still, that may not be enough to entice every buyer. Microsoft is distributing free gift card codes worth $5 or $10 to target the most frugal gamers. Sadly, judging by Reddit posts, the messages seem sporadic. Gamers should check their inboxes on the Xbox PC app or console to see if Microsoft has sent the offer.

Strangely, inactive accounts may also receive the Xbox gift card codes. Gamers were surprised to find messages from Microsoft on accounts not used in years. Meanwhile, some Xbox fans who regularly purchase and play games feel left out.

The latest Xbox Spring Sale lasts until April 30th, so the free codes may continue to surface. Microsoft has slashed prices on titles playable on the Xbox console and Play Anywhere games available on PCs. Some of the most tempting sales include Red Dead Redemption 2, which is 80% off at $14.99. Also, after backlash over the $49.99 Khaos Reigns expansion, fighting fanatics can purchase Mortal Kombat 1 with the DLC for $29.69. The Xbox gift card codes further reduce the prices of these titles.

With the latest Xbox sale promotion, the free gift card codes apparently aren't loyalty-based. Instead, Microsoft Rewards allows players to earn and spend points on games or subscriptions. Unfortunately, acquiring these points is now more difficult. Microsoft disappointed players when auto-redeems for Game Pass became more costly last April. The price increases reflected a hike in monthly subscriptions during the Summer of 2024.
